Sanjay Dutt penning his autobiography

Fans of  Sanjay Dutt can read about his eventful life in his autobiography, The Roar of a Lion, which he is now working on. "Sanjay Dutt's autobiography is called The Roar of a Lion and it is almost half done," a well-placed source in the film industry said here on Saturday, revealing the title that was the subject of much guesswork so far. The date for the book's release has not been decided as Dutt is busy with his film schedules.

He had long been telling friends about his wish to pen an autobiography. When he told his wife Manyata about it, she backed him to the hilt. Meanwhile, Dutt's filmmaker friend Sanjay Gupta too has commissioned a biography of the actor as a tribute to him.

To be penned by journalist, author and lyricist Neelesh Mishra, it will be in three volumes covering Dutt's life in three phases.

The first volume will deal with the period when the star went into drug rehabilitation. The second volume will recount his marriage to Richa Sharma, their divorce and her tragic death, while the final volume will be about his legal battles, probation and life beyond all that.

Sanju plans book - but will it reveal all?

Sanjay Dutt is writing his biography and it's to be called The Roar of a Lion.

The title will amuse those who point out that Sanjay Dutt has spent a lifetime in controversy of his own making. The star has had a famously mistake-prone life. First getting into drugs in his youth, then a spate of failed relationships, then, most infamously of all, being convicted and spending time in jail.

But Bollywood is forgiving and he is remembered fondly, especially for his roles as Munnabhai.

This month the star saw a patch of bad luck when, in the middle of the economic crisis, Ekta Kapoor pulled the plug on a huge joint venture she was financing with Sanju Baba.

Hopefully mention of all that will be deleted from the book.

"It will be interesting to see if he acknowledges his mistakes," an analyst said, "and not just about the drugs. The most important thing will be: will he be man enough to say that he made some criminal mistakes and paid the price for it by being convicted?"

Also to be seen is whether he explains his reasons for his taking the steps he did.

Meanwhile, Dutt's erstwhile friend Sanjay Gupta is planning a movie on the star, even though Sanjay has disowned him publicly.

The two were partners till stories of how Gupta managed their company, White Feathers, came out in public.
