Aditya Chopra to direct Rani Mukherjee?
15th Jan 2008 20.10 IST
If the latest tinsel tattle is to be believed, Aditya Chopra will direct a film for home banner Yashraj Films this year.
2007 was the worst year for YRF in recent history, with only one film ( Chak De India ) of their five productions turning out to be a hit. And to bail his production house out of this mess, it is Aditya Chopra himself who is learnt to be gearing up to return to direction after a long gap of eight years.
Aditya made his directorial debut with Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge , which turned out to be one of the top blockbusters ever in the Hindi film industry. He made his second film Mohabattein in 1999. The film, however, could not repeat the success of Chopra's first movie.
Now, Chopra is reported to be working on the script of a film, which he will direct later this year.
Expectedly, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee are topmost on Chopra's wishlist for this film. Incidentally, this would be the first time Aditya will direct Rani.
Reports say Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta are also being considered for the film.
The yet-untitled movie will go on the floors in the middle of this year. If things go as planned, it should make it to the theatres by the end of this year
Aditya picks Rani for SRK - Hrithik film
Aditya Chopra has selected Yash Raj favourite Rani Mukherji to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in his next directorial venture.
A source close to Yash Raj says that Rani is more than happy to work in the project which is expected to begin this year itself.
"Adi needs two heroines for his film. Rani will play the lead opposite SRK while the hunt is still on for Hrithik's heroine. A couple of actresses have been short listed but it looks like Preity Zinta might make the cut," says the source.
He adds that the film will have everything that Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj are famous for - from foreign locales to over the top love and romance which is the central theme of Chopra's film.
But one can't help but question Aditya's need to step into the director's role all of a sudden?
"Everyone knows that Yash Raj has had a very bad 2007. Other than Chak De! India they haven't had any superhit and so Adi is taking things in his own hand. The film will have everything that made DDLJ and Mohabbatein cult films amongst the youth. And who better to do it with then the most bankable stars of Yash Raj and Bollywood."
"And at the same time he has been thinking about directing a film. He has been working on the script for a while and then when Yash Raj needs his success formula the most it does make sense for him to direct the film now," feels our source.
With the script close to being locked down, the film is expected to go on floors in the summer once all the actors have wrapped up their current commitments. The romantic drama will be shot in Dubai, Australia and Yash Raj's current favourite Greece.
Aditya Chopra is looking for a girl
The filmmaker plans to launch a nationwide hunt for a 'traditional Indian beauty' for his film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Once again, SRK will be paired with a leading lady half his age
Aditya Chopra is looking for a fair, pretty, young girl with an athletic body. No, the director is not doing so for personal reasons. Aditya, who returns to direction after an eight-year hiatus, is set to launch a mega talent hunt for the leading lady opposite good friend Shah Rukh Khan for his next film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
As the title suggests, the film is a romantic love story and the meticulous director is looking for a traditional Indian beauty to suit the part. Along with good looks and a fresh face, the leading lady should have an athletic body and the age limit has been set between 20 and 24.
The production team of the film will hold auditions in various cities in the coming weeks. A reliable Yashraj source informs, "Aditya is very keen on casting a new face this time. He wants to cast a traditional Indian beauty opposite Shah Rukh."
That gives Shah Rukh Khan another reason to rejoice as he is eager to work with younger actresses. In previous interviews, the actor has said that it gives him immense pleasure to work with actresses almost half his age. The story goes that Aditya has been in talks with good friend Shah Rukh Khan ever since Chak De got the cash registers ringing at the box office.
However, SRK signed the film only recently as he was pre-occupied with Om Shanti Om and was also planning his schedule for Karan Johar's next My Name is Khan. But Karan's film has been postponed to September and Shah Rukh starts filming for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi this May.
The plot revolves around a hilarious couple and their exploits. The title has been borrowed from the popular song Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi from Manmohan Desai's film Suhaag, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Rekha and Parveen Babi.
If sources are to be believed, Hrithik Roshan is being considered for a supporting role for the film that releases at the end of this year. When quizzed about it, Yashraj spokesperson Monika Bhattacharya, while not categorically denying the fact, says cautiously, "The entire cast is yet to be finalised. We will make an official announcement when it is done."
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi Is Talk Of The Town
Saturday 2nnd February 2008 14.00 IST
It was around four o clock yesterday as the official announcement was made of Aditya Chopra's next film Rab De Bana Di Jodi and all the talk in the industry was about this film. Never has a film created such waves just on announcement and the film is not even what you call a big film with budget set at around 22 crore. The excitement was probably due to the fact that Adi Chopra who is regarded within the hindi film industry as the best director is helming another film after eight years. His first film DDLJ had just gone into its 642nd week in Mumbai when the announcement was made.
Speculation was going on for months as to what would be Chopra's next film. Insiders suggest that he was toying with the idea of directing the next Dhoom series film but after many hush hush meetings with Shahrukh Khan they zeroed on a traditional Yashraj Punjabi love story with music and heartwarming emotions expected to be the highlights. Aditya Chopra decided to make what he is best at and that is a film in the mould of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. As soon as the name Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi hit the industry the comparisons with DDLJ were going to be made but it will take one big effort to match that legendary film. There are also some in the trade who believed Aditya should have gone with the Dhoom series as that may be the need of the hour as these sort films are more viable at the box office today than musical love stories. Only time will tell if this is the right decision but most fans of the the Aditya/SRK combination are happy as they would prefer them to make a romantic film rather than an action film. Lets hope that the box office sees it that way as well.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is expected to be wrapped in four months between May and August. Initially Shahrukh Khan was expected to shoot for Karan Johar's next from May but that film will now commence in October. If all goes to plan RNBDJ will be released on October 24th to take the benefits of Diwali week. Incidentally this will also be the 13th anniversary of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
A new heroine will be launched with the film. The search will be through a talent hunt by Yashraj which will commence soon. The film is expected to have guest appearances by Hrithik Roshan and Rani Mukherjee though this has not been confirmed by the production house yet. Other cast and credits are to be finalised.
