CID breaks world record

… not for solving a case but for shooting non-stop

The CID team has reasons to celebrate. The show has found a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records 2006 and the Limca Book of Records 2006 for having shot a sequence non-stop and without a cut for a full 111 minutes.

It is featured as the Longest Single Shot in the Fiction category. The earlier record was held by a Russian production for 25 minutes.

Supervising Producer Yash Patnaik shared with us the details of the shoot: "We hired an under-construction hotel site in Lonavala to shoot the sequence. Special shooting equipment was brought in from Paris and Singapore. Ten surveillance cameras on the roof and earpieces enabled the team to communicate with each other. The whole idea was producer/director BP Singh's brainchild. Since it was supposed to be a single shot, we had just one camera on the floors which cameraman Nitin Rao was in charge of.'

"He carried the 32-kilo camera on his shoulders for all the time and played his part perfectly without losing anyone in the frame. Of course, the actors had their share of labour too. They had to memorise 90 pages of script. One mistake and we would have had to start from the scratch. But thankfully, everything went just fine."

He further added, "It took the 185-member team six months of preparation, seven days of rehearsal and one attempt to get it right. I am happy we succeeded because it was a question of our credibility. In November 2004, our feat was acknowledged as a world record and we got the certificate in February 2005.'

"Our name has been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records 2006 and Limca Book of Records 2006. The scene in question was shot exactly a year ago (October 8, 2004). Actors Shivaji Satam, Dayanand Shetty, Mona Ambegaonkar, Smita Bansal, and Manav Gohil were a part of this Herculean task."

The longest SCENE
The scene involves an elderly gentleman (played by actor Mukesh Rawal) who calls all his relatives by his deathbed and expresses a desire to make his will. Soon after, a series of murders starts taking place in the house. The CID team is called in to investigate.
