Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan together!

By ApunKaChoice
Fri, Feb 20, 2009 18:45 IST

Abhishek Bachchan Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan will be seen together as guests on Farhan Akhtar 's chat show.

The two actors who used to share cold vibes now gel well and are henceforth invited together on Farhan's talk show 'Oye! It's Friday'. Farhan generally has two celebrities as guests for every episode. And according to sources, Abhi and Sallu will shoot together on same day for the show.

Farhan's talk show has good TRP ratings now since witty
Karan Johar 's 'Koffee with Karan' is not on. Farhan's show is one such programme where you can catch your favourite celebs at their candid best.
On any chat show, since there are personal questions, it's worth watching how the two stars will react and manage. Abhishek is married to Aishwarya Rai with whom Salman once had a volatile romantic affair before she dumped him. He later found love in Katrina Kaif .

Farhan's show contains loads of gags and spoofs and his style of hosting makes it worth watching. He's got
Aamir Khan as well as Shahrukh Khan already on his show. The only Khan left was Salman. And for Abhishek it's a long sabbatical since he appeared on small screen, that too in a talk show.

Feb 26 is the shoot day and the episode will be aired in March.

SRK calls, Bachchan drops in to 'play games'

Mumbai, Feb. 18: Amitabh Bachchan today visited Shah Rukh Khan, who got back home yesterday after a shoulder surgery.

Bachchan drove to Mannat, Shah Rukh's seafront mansion in Bandra, this evening.

Shah Rukh, who had a surgery to repair a tear in the main muscle of his left shoulder at Breach Candy on Monday, was said to have told Bachchan he returned home early as he was feeling depressed in the hospital.

Yesterday, Bachchan had urged Shah Rukh "not to take the post-surgery period lightly and avoid any kind of activity". The two spoke after Shah Rukh called to thank Bachchan for his message wishing him a "speedy recovery".

Bachchan recounted the conversation on his blog later yesterday. "Do not take after-surgery too lightly, I warn him, take rest and do not get into any kind of activity. He sounds a little groggy. I shall visit him tomorrow." He spent almost an hour with Shah Rukh today.

This was Shah Rukh's second surgery, the first was conducted in London in 2003 for a back problem.

Shah Rukh and wife Gauri had visited Bachchan at Lilavati Hospital in December 2005 when he underwent an operation for jejunal diverticulitis and was hospitalised for 19 days.

The two actors, who have starred together in blockbusters like Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, have repeatedly said they share a cordial relationship despite persistent speculation about their "rivalry".

The talk about their cold vibes intensified after Shah Rukh starred in the remake Bachchan classic Don in 2006 and followed him as the host in a sequel of Kaun Banega Crorepati.

The game show is behind them but the two still appear to have a penchant for games. Writing on his blog, Bachchan appeared to suggest it was time for play.

Shah Rukh with wife Gauri visits Amitabh at Lilavati in 2005

"Come home sir, we shall play some games," he quoted Shah Rukh as saying when the two spoke yesterday and Bachchan said he had been planning to visit him in hospital.

They were known to have loved such light moments on the sets of Bhoothnath, their last film together which released in 2008, often laying the board for a hand at Trivial Pursuit and other games.

Their bonhomie on the sets helped muffle rumours of their "rivalry", much before Bachchan began insisting on his blog they had always been "good friends and how the media had "set them up against each other".

The Bollywood Big Two might, however, rue having missed a game show that could have put them in Oscar spotlight: both Bachchan and Shah Rukh turned down Anil Kapoor's role of a game show host in Slumdog Millionaire. The film has bagged 10 nominations for the Oscars, to be announced next Monday.

Big B teams up with SRK in Farah's next

Peace, actually
Wassup my almond- 'n' -walnut macaroons? For a change, I'm gonna be so sweet and nice today that you'll probably think I'm a walking-talking-sexy barfi. I am, but that's another story.

For now, the todu khabar is that Amitabh Bachchan is teaming up with Shah Rukh Khan for his production Happy New Year.. and by the end of 2009, will shoot for it too.. under the nirdeshan of Farah Khan.

When the movie was first planned, SRK wasn't too pleased with the way the storyline was shaping up in the second half. Besides, Bachchan saab wasn't keeping too well then. So the actor-producer and his director-friend chose to put Happy New Year on hold and started work on another script, Om Shanti Om.

Meanwhile, Farah reworked the script and now that SRK and she are pleased with it, they have decided to make Happy New Year next. I'm told the duo will start working on it once SRK completes Karan Johar's My Name is Khan.

Meanwhile, Bachchan saab, who had expressed his willingness to be a part of the movie then, is believed to be pleased with the script and has even allotted his dates for the shoot.

I just hope this puts an end to all speculations of star wars etc etc. After all, I'm such a peace loving girl, no.

On Tuesday February 17th evening, the body honoured 10 Bollywood actors for their contribution to Indian cinema.

Bollywood big names such as Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee were those honoured but out of these 10, only 5 stars made it for the ceremony that's - Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra. While Shahrukh could not make it due to his recent shoulder operation, some of the other actors were unable to attend due to various reasons such as shooting out of town for their respective films.

In receiving the award, Bachchan, who is also the brand ambassador of IIFA, said, "I am very honoured to receive this recognition. I have been working in this industry for the last 40 years and appreciate this felicitation."

It also saw the coming together of two legends - Hollywood actor Danny Glover and Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Glover was also felicitated with the FICCI-USIBC Award. Glover also gave the memento to Bachchan. He is one of the top character actors working in Hollywood. He made his debut in the 1979 Clint Eastwood potboiler Escape from Alcatraz (1979) and since then worked in multiple movies including Dreamgirls (2006).

Delhi-6 Movie Review
Review by : Harish V
Starring: Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni, Divya Dutta
Direction: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
Music: A.R. Rahman
Production: Ronnie Screwvala
Now comes a biggie, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra after the revolutionary Rang De Basanti comes up with his new film Delhi- 6. Rahman did his bit by giving some exceptional tunes and quadrupling the hype. Will this America to Chandni chowk work at the box-office or atleast find place in the hearts of millions as Rakesh's last movie?

This movie can be compared to Ashutosh Gowarikar's Swades in more ways than one as Ashutosh took that movie after the stupendous success of Lagaan and though
  Delhi-6
Swades was a good movie it didn't come close to his last movie and after the show we have exactly the same reaction on Delhi – 6.

The story is about an NRI who comes to his homeland to leave his dying grandmother and falls in love with the people around him. But his life is not going to be easy as the antics of a Monkey man turns the colorful people in the community grey. Will the hero be able to save the day? Or will he return back to US and stay off these troubled streets? Watch it yourself.

With such a wafer thin story line one has to work heavily on the presentation and Rakesh does that but not fully. Diverse people form the community - the middle class heroine who wants to become an Indian idol, flirty photographer, a rich-man who has a weakness for women, a strict no joke father, two naughty and adventurous kids, a joyous and fun-filled jelabi vendor, a sadhu whose antenna can connect to gods' signals, a helpful loser who is taken for granted by everyone, a grandma who is ready to walk to get the blessings of the Holy cow when she has low blood pressure and just fainted, a rich person who lives his whole life cherishing the love that he lost, an untouchable but righteous woman, a Fakhir who always goes by with a mirror asking people to see the inner-side and many more forms the community. And then there is this Monkey man- who just jumps from one house to another hardly hurting anyone but becomes a dangerous monster thanks to the media hype and the people who use him to get out of their wrong doings. But the director takes more than half the film to draw the character sketch of all and makes you a little fidgety.

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra has many grudges against the society, and Rang De Basanti is a proof of the angry man inside him. For his next movie I presume he would have noted down all his grudges in a notebook and tried to choose one but as he was as confused as the heroine of the movie and decided to incorporate all the social issues he can think of and made a single story. Be it untouchability or silly superstitions or the media's thirst for controversies or communal disharmony or woman trade in the society or improper bringing up of children, he has dealt with everything in this 2 hour movie. It does entertain and many scenes deserve applause like the scene involving Ramayan drama. It is a delight to see how Rakesh has incorporated Ramayan in the story and almost all the scenes of Divya Dutta who plays the role of the chirpy cleaner is neatly done.

Technically the movie boasts of a premier work behind the camera by Binod Pradhan, his work, especially the kaala bandar first person deserves more than just some statue. The dialogues are crisp and works fine with the mood of the movie. The art direction needs a pat on the back as we hardly can believe that the whole Chandni Chowk shots are shot on sets. Music is the high-point of the movie with Rahman not just scoring big with the songs but sweeps one off their feet with an international quality background score. The lyrics by Prasoon Joshi are equally brilliant. Editing by P.S.Bharathy is first-rate and the 'Dil Kare Daftan' work is something which has to be seen to be believed. A dream sequence which is a mix of the past and future of the protagonist has many hidden and inner meanings and is shot brilliantly.

Acting is of high order with Abhishek bachchan coming up with a cool performance, Rishi Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Waheeda Rahman and Atul Kulkarni are as natural as you and me will ever be and that is the highlight of the movie. All the other supporting casts do their work with dignified brilliance and the two kids are a riot. But on the downside again would be the heroine Sonam Kapoor, who has the power of extracting laughter in an emotional scene which is bad news for this beautiful two film old actress. There is also a surprise special appearance by Amitabh Bachchan which is good.

On the whole the movie is an account of Rakesh's grudges against the society, though the intentions are noble the final product does leave you a lot to be desired. Even though the movie will satisfy the audience in more ways than one this social satire looks like a half baked collage of many vital social issues.

Verdict: A decent follow up to Rang de basanti

Review: 'Delhi-6' admirably paints a microcosmic view of Indian middle class

Review: Delhi-6 admirably paints a microcosmic view of Indian middle class

Spicezee Bureau

'Delhi-6' is a tribute to the colourful, delightful but hotchpotch Indian middle class residing in the narrow criss-cross lanes of old Delhi.

Indian middle class comprises the majority of Indian population and the subject has often been addressed in Hindi films. But director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's treatment of the theme is different. Like his highly-acclaimed film, 'Rang De Basanti', this film too shows moments of unparalleled originality.

The director weaves nine stories against the panoramic background of Delhi-6. Sometimes there is confusion and turmoil, with the stories overlapping and going out of hand, but the theme manages to hold the film together. Prejudices, superstitions, communal, caste clashes, media's dumb acts– everything has been beautifully imbibed as the story grows out of the mazy lanes and addresses several social issues.

Diverse characters create the nine stories – there is the 'masakali' singing middle-class heroine aspiring to be an Indian idol, a photographer with loose morals, a rich-man who has a weakness for women, a no-nonsense father, two mischievous kids, a cheerful jalebi vendor, a typical Sadhu who can make direct connection to God, a helpful loser, a sweet religious grandma, a man remembering lost love, an untouchable but righteous woman, a wise fakir and many other memorable characters. But above all, there is this dreadful unseen presence of the media-hyped Monkey man– who turns out to be a harmless man.

Full marks to Abhishek Bachchan for his cool performance, however Sonam Kapoor falters a bit but looks good onscreen. Rishi Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Waheeda Rahman and Atul Kulkarni have done a wonderful job.

The film is technically flawless and boasts of a commendable work behind the camera by Binod Pradhan. Although Abhishek Bachchan speaks little in his Americanised accent, the dialogues are crisp and go with the mood. The film has beautiful moments picturised thanks to the art direction and the music is the highest point of the movie. Well, AR Rahman clearly is a composer par excellence! The lyrics by Prasoon Joshi are brilliant and editor PS Bharathy does a good job.

Although not as great as his previous flick due to the loose plot, irregularity and little confusion, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has again proved his mettle as a filmmaker.

Rating: Nothing less than Three Cheers!

The Bachchans get together for Delhi-6
Friday, February 20, 2009, 12:47 [IST] It may sound weird but it's true that the Bachchan family revolves around films. They don't find time for each other because of their film commitments, and in the meantime, it is films that bring them together. For instance, the Bachchans – Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya were held up at different places till lately. However, they all are set to come to Delhi for the premiere of Delhi-6, in which Abhishek plays the lead role along with Sonam Kapoor.

"I prepare to leave for Delhi for Delhi 6 ! Abhishek has just landed from Dubai into Delhi, after the premier in Dubai. Aishwarya shooting on the outskirts of Kolkata will come in by the evening to Delhi and Jaya is already there because of Parliament. It is these strange travel combinations that bring us together nowadays," wrote Amitabh Bachchan on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

The superstar revealed that staying away from each other is not something they can avoid. "It is distracting to be away. But not something that can be avoided. Soon I would believe, we would all have to just put our foot down, take a break and go off somewhere to just be together," he said.

Well, the Bachchans have come together to support another Bachchan – Abhishek, whose film Delhi-6 is releasing today!

Amitabh Bachchan visits Shah Rukh to enquire about his health
Mumbai, Feb 18, 2009: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan reportedly visited Shah Rukh Khan to enquire about his health. Shah Rukh Khan underwent a shoulder surgery day before yesterday and is advised to take rest for next several weeks.

For a workaholic like Shah Rukh Khan it seems unthinkable that he will heed the doctors' advice for such a long break from work. He is not known to take rests or leaves. This is the only reason that Shah Rukh Khan who was an outsider in the Bollywood without any connection in the industry has become the biggest star of the Hindi cinema.

Though Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are not known to share very cordical relationship, the visit may change the relations for the better.
