MUMBAI (Reuters) - Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has said he would not celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, as a mark of respect to the victims of the Mumbai attacks in November.
"That joyous spirit has been dampened by the atrocities that our city faced on 26/11," Bachchan, arguably India's biggest superstar, wrote on his blog (http://bigb.bigadda.com).
"In its wake somewhere inside us there is a reluctance to involve ourselves in any kind of exhibition."
Holi, celebrated this year on Wednesday, is usually marked with fervour at the Bachchan residence, with several Bollywood celebrities in attendance.
But the Mumbai attacks, in which nearly 170 people were killed, has put a damper on festivities.
"Professional work is understandable, but private excesses do not find favor in our hearts," the 66-year-old actor said.
"And so shall we respect that. It is the right thing to do."
