Abhishek Bachchan starrer Drona boasts 1300 visual effects shots
Story By: Businessofcinema.com Team updated on: 09/09/08

Mumbai: Abhishek Bachchan starrer upcoming film Drona, which will hit the big screen on 2 October, boasts of 1300- 1500 visual effects (vfx) shots.

David Bush (Armageddon, Bicentennial Man) is the VFX producer and supervisor on the film. The vfx work has been done at six facilities in India, which are Eye Cube, Tata Elxsi, Prana, Red Chillies, Prime Focus and Future Works.

Eyecube which is Eros' visual effects company has worked on almost 300 vfx shots. Eros is the producer of Drona along with Rose Movies. The balance vfx shots have been worked on in other facilities.

Producer Shrishti Arya said, "Drona is the first Hindi film with so many vfx shots and also the first movie for which the vfx work is being done by so many companies. Since there were so many vfx shots in the movie it had become imperative to involve other companies as well."

VFX producer and supervisor Bush adds, "Drona is my first experience with Indian cinema. I have never made so many visual effects in a single film before. My sincere hope is that they will all go as un-noticed as possible because they are intended to help tell the story and not behave like spectacular, individual, show-stopping visual effects."

Drona music: Not very enchanting

Abhishek Bachchan in Drona

September 09, 2008 15:33 IST
Inscribed swords. Sand-faced monsters. Tintin-hair baddie. Bandana-sporting hottie. Everyone's busy seeking Drona [Images]. Warrior to some. Saviour for others. One Abhishek Bachchan [Images] to do it all.

Director Goldie Behl, who previously made Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai -- a Shree 420 meets Wall Street-type -- appears to be smitten by Hollywood's steady manufacture of fantasy-filled feasts. And so even if we presume Drona may not be a The Lord of the Rings, The Mummy [Images] or a Prince Caspian, it definitely looks inspired.
Starring Bachchan Jr, along with mom Jaya, Priyanka Chopra [Images] and Kay Kay Menon, Drona revolves around a mythical superhero , flash gold 'n' zardozi costumes and all. Fantasy is by and large a tricky genre in our films. Either they become they go the Krrish [Images] way or go down as in the case of Anil Kapoor-Madhuri Dixit starrer Rajkumar.

Composed by Dhruv Ghanekar against Vaibhav Modi's lyrics, the soundtrack has its own share of plus and minuses.

The title track, which introduces the listener into the legend of Drona, rendered by him is stylish, groovy and catchy -- both in sound and arrangement. It may not have the finesse of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's techno-friendly creations for Don, but the minimalism and rawness only adds to Drona's overall appeal. Its other version Drona redux, featuring Sunidhi Chauhan [Images], is strikingly glamorous and a few rungs higher on intensity and aggression.

Sunidhi drops in again, amidst amusing noises of 'plop' 'ding' 'woing,' to croon Oop cha with her trademark husky coolness. And for all its electronic fervour, there's nothing exotic about this oddly titled ditty celebrating the 'que sera sera' policy. Interestingly enough, the Fare-Play remix, with Bob Omulo pitching in to do a fancy rap, works much better.

Sunidhi takes a break from her comfortable huskiness to deliver the gently paced Banda gi alongside an equally competent Roop Kumar Rathod. As much as we appreciate Sunidhi's refreshing move, mellifluous notes of flute and tabla alone don't make a classic melody. Banda gi's uneven tune brusquely shifts from high to low pitch, making it way too jarring to ignore.

Serene and dulcet, Nanhe nanhe boasts of an ultra melodious Sadhna Sargam entering the lullaby mode, playing around with sweet-sounding metaphors. Ideally, Ghanekar could have gone easy on the instruments and let Sargam take complete charge. Nevertheless, Nanhe makes a smooth impact.

Shaan [Images] tries to do a Frank Sinatra in the dripping-with -cheer Khushi. While the bounciness is nice and all, it's not particularly infectious. Quite the opposite, actually. The excessively melodramatic temperament of the track -- in mood and orchestration -- doesn't help one bit.

A subject like Drona, high on make-believe and enchantment, screams for adventure and surreal in its compositions.  And while the soundtrack has its moments, in entirety it's too average to achieve any of these elements.

Amitabh Bachchan's blog has become a super duper hit

By Khabrein.Info Correspondent,

Mumbai, Sept. 7, 2008: Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan's blog has become a super duper hit. It was evident from the sheer number of responses that he gets from his readers on his blog, but now we have numbers to back it.

Amitabh Bachcan in the meantime has proved himself a good writer as well. His oratory was never in doubt. In fact he is such a forceful orator that he can put political oratory of the likes of Advani, Vajpayee and others as child like.

His writings are no less impressive. Mostly his postings on his blogs were written in a hurry, but he always makes it a point to write flawless English.

Now the numbers. Amitabh Bachchan says that average number of daily visitors to his site has exceeded 16000. He says that total number of visits since April '08 was 2,37,0,000 approx, including unique and regular visit.

He says that the total page views since April was approximately 1,14,00,000, while average page views per day was approximately100,000.

The total page hits so far since April '2008 when he launched the blog was an astronomical 8,79,88,000.

This is not mere a claim. Alexa.com, a website that ranks websites on their popularity ranked Amitabh Bachchan's blog better than leading Indian newspapers including Times Of India and several others.
