Starting with KBC 2, Ba Bahoo aur Baby has hit the skies from the commencation with its roots in a traditional Gujarati family, who has lived through poverty and struggled and risen to the high standards of a mediumly rich family in Mumbai.

The Thakkars, the center family of this show is a large family, which is centrally controlled by the matriarch of the family, Godavari Thakker, who lives in the house after the death of her father, who was a well settled man. Another interesting point is that she only studied until Grade 4 (Std. 4). She has struggled all her life to support her kids: Arvind, Harshad, Subudh, Gatoo, Baby (Radhika) and Charuballa. After preparing meals for others and working tremendously hard, she now controls the family in the latter part of her life, when her bahus have started coming in. But not all happiness has settled in the family.

Godavari's husband, Labhshanker Thakker is a alcoholic, who is only interested in Theatre and drinks. He has been mentioned as a lazy person who was unable to support his wife even during her days of pregnancy. But, besides that, Godavari has lived through the struggle with the support from her eldest son, Arvind, who sacrificed his own childhood to ensure that food is provided for his brothers and sisters.

Such is the story of the Thakker family and its struggle even into the present day, but now, through dedication, devotion and determination, Godavari has settled the family, with all living together sharing their happiness and sadness together. Also, this serial is not the typical "saas-bahu" serial, however, it is a realistic serial, with its main purpose of showing the other side of those families living in Mumbai, who have themselves passed through the struggle and still struggle to maintain a balance and harmony in their family. Ba, Bahoo aur Baby is focused on the Thakker family of East Parle in Mumbai, India.

Godavari Thakker: an outgoing, smart and sharp lady, this woman has taken care of her family and husband for many years by spending her days and nights into one to ensure progess and food for her children. Godavari is now pleased that all that she worked for has come to fruit, with the family now secure, safe and happy. Godavari has the last say on everything in the house, if not the first one to say anything. She has compassion for those who need it and anger/punishment for those who deserve it. She is very fair and balanced and does not distinguish between her sons, daughters and bahus. Everyone is scared of her and before making any decision, they must keep their "Ba" in mind before making decisions.

Labshanker Thakker: the patriarch of the family, who is alcoholic and is focused 24/7 on dramas in Theatres. He is a useless person in life who has lived of the hard work and money earned by his wife. "Bapuji" is not concerned that much about his family, as it is portrayed, but is very seperated from the family, in a sense that he does not play a pivotal role in the familial decisions.

Arvind Thakker: the eldest son of the family, he is an honest and straightforward man. He is the "mama's boy", who will follow the decisions of his mother all the times, but will recommend suggestions, if appropriate. He works at a Insurance Office and is often the target of those who do not like his honesty. Arvind has worked hard all his life along with his mother to support the family.

Leela Thakker: the wife of Arvind, she is the eldest bahu of the family and is somewhat a complaint person. Everytime something goes wrong with the family, she has to make comments about her family background which is rich and prosperous. Leela is not the typical "jethani", but she is law abiding and scared of Ba somewhat. When it comes to the future of her kids, she has one goal in mind: America. She is determined to send her son and daughter to America after their studies/marriage.

Pravin Thakker: the most stingy person in the family, he cries for money and always seperates himself from those discussions that involve the mention of money. A saree maker with his wife, he is jealous of his wife most of the times and fights with her. He is also found on the other spectrum of the side when comparing with Ba. He is very penny-pincher and very much afraid of spending money on things that are "useless" in his sense.

Pravina Thakker: the second eldest bahu in the family and the wife of Pravin. She works with her husband in the field of making sarees and is somewhat forgetful. She never backs away from a fight and can raise her voice against Ba for her beliefs. She is the energetic, brain-minded woman in the family who likes bets and usually wins them.

Subud Thakker: the romantic person in the family. He loves his "bhakti" wife and is always flirting with her, even in front of the family. He works in the theatre with his father and is the person who loves his family and doesn't hesitate to spend money, unlike his brother Pravin. He is also the sensitive person who will take care of all in times of crisis and support all when needed.

Minakshi Thakker: wife of Subudh, she is very devotional to her Kanha and is very lovely. Very old-fashioned, she resents thinking about other men and follows all the orders of her elders, including falling off a cliff! She is traditional but very devotional. She never raises her voice against her elders and cries alot.

Harshad Thakker: the only member of the family who lives away in West Parle with his wife and two kids. He is a doctor and is wealthy, with crores of money in his bank account. Even though, he misses his family, especially Ba. He always tries to come close to Ba, even though she does not prefer it and has a goal that he will move back to his house with his family and live like his brothers. His wife runs a Nursing Clinic.

Baby (Radhika) Thakker: the center of this show, Baby is outgoing and pretty. She loves Anish, even though she rejects it. She has immense respect for her family, especially Ba. Even though she is young and pretty, she suffers from polio and thus needs crutches to walk. Otherwise, she is adamant and pampered by her family. She has a dream of walking without her crutches.

Anish: rich, handsome and smart, he is the man of the show, with whom all girls might fall in love. Not having a traditional family like the Thakker's, he is very connected with them, especially Baby. He has an open mind and is concerned alot about Baby's future. He has a dream to see Baby walk without her crutches. Also, he is sensitive and comes to the aid of the Thakkers when in need.

Dimple Thakker: daughter of Arvind and Leela, she is around the same age as Baby and is falling in love with Anish. She shares all her stuff with Baby, even though she might not prefer that. Otherwise, she listens to her mom and can be liberal sometimes.

Gatoo Thakker: the youngest son of Godavari, he has a brain of a 3 year old, where he cannot live like a normal person and follows all the orders of his family. If they tell him to get bread from Store 1 and it is closed and someone else is also selling the same bread, he will not buy because he wasn't told that. Always playful and a fantastic comedian, he has quite an appetite. He always eats and eats and loves food. His intake is the largest in the family.

Mehul Thakker, Manan Thakker, Chaitali Thakker and Mitali Thakker: kids of the Thakker family, they are playful and energetic. Mehul is usually their leader who plays pranks among the family and their usual target is either Gatoo, who is like them, mentally (little lower) and Minakshi, for her innocence.

Charuballa: the eldest daughter of Godavari, she married into a ultimate rich household and has the habit of saying her husband's name all the time, "Tushar, this and Tushar, that!". She cannot live in her "old" house because there are mosquitoes, even though she spent 25 years in that very same house. She is rich and loves to show off.
