About Arshad Warsi

Biography:

Arshad Warsi started his career in films in the year 1996 with the film Tere Mere Sapne. The film was a success but thereon he wasn’t noticed much in the industry for a few years. The turning point and his most memorable role till now was that of “Circuit" in the comedy series Munnabhai. Apart from the two Munnabhai movies, Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006) he was also critically acclaimed for his role as Babban in Ishqiya (2010).

Warsi was born in Mumbai and did his schooling at a boarding school, Barnes School, in Nashik district. He was orphaned at the age of 14 and struggled for a living in Mumbai during his early days.

He made a mark for himself on the small screen as well. He started off by hosting a popular award show Sabse Favourite Kaun for STAR Gold. Then he was the host of the very first season of Bigg Boss, the Indian version of the reality television series Big Brother.

Arshad married Maria Goretti on 14 February 1999 and they have a son named Zeke Warsi. Both Maria and Zeke made a special appearance in Salaam Namaste. On 2 May 2007, the couple had a baby girl named Zene Zoe Warsi.

Personal Life:

Arshad’s personal life was away from media glare because of its stability. But after he turned producer with his film Hum Tum Aur Ghost (2010) starring Dia Mirza and the actor himself in the lead, his marriage to Maria Goretti went under the scanner. A rumor was unleashed about his alleged affair with costar Dia Mirza.

Arshad dismissed this rumor by calling it “a vicious thing” circulated against him. He went on to say thankfully the situation was salvaged as his wife Maria trusted her man, but he didn't want the rumor to affect his family, particularly his children. Since then the rumor mills have been put to rest.

Controversy:

Arshad got himself into a controversy when he didn’t chose his words right while analyzing a commercial. He pointed out in the commercial of Slice, that Katrina Kaif in the ad doesn't look impressive at all. Talking about the ad on his micro-blog Arshad had written, "How pakao is Katrina in the Slice ad, kairi pakadti hai aur vo aam ban jata hai... Angoor do toh shayad Wine banjayegi..."

When the statement was hyped and Arshad started receiving flak for the comment on his social networking page, he cleared the air by explaining on his micro blog, “My comment has nothing to do with Katrina. It's just a humorous observation on the creatives of the ad. It’s called sense of humour.”
