Kites is one of the most awaited movies of 2010. When it comes to music, composer Rajesh Roshan holds a high pedestal among the others. Thus, being in a league of his own, there is a lot expected from his work. Kites offers a blend of Indian music infused with some western magic. Some of the tracks have a classical feel, however it would be wrong to say that the music is purely classical. The album is a nice potpourri with something for everyone's taste.

The album commences with "Zindagi" written by Nasir Faraaz. The song is immensely powerful, reminiscing of pure love and romance with beautiful lyrics penned down by Nasir and sung by KK. KK's mesmerizing voice and the hook of 'Intezar Kab Tak...' gives the song an unforgettable quality. His voice was just apt for the song and suited well on Hrithik Roshan. The song reminds you of the music of the golden days. With the perfect dash of classical music, the song is enchanting. However, the remix version fails to impress audiences.

The next in the queue is "Dil Kyun Ye Mera", again sung by KK with his magnificent voice. The song is about the feelings of love and Nasir Faraaz has once again followed through with amazing lyrics. With a breath-taking composition, Rajesh Roshan surely leaves a great impact on the audience. The remix version of this song is fairly interesting. It has a mixture of rap-n-reggae which ensures the interest of many. It has a completely different mood from the original. Both the songs appeal to completely different types of audiences, which adds more universality to the song.

The next track is "Tum Bhi Ho Wahi". The song begins very well with a beautiful guitar melody, but is a little lacking in the lyrics department. Unfortunately for Faraaz, the lyrics fail to weave the magic this time around, unlike his other wonderful songs in the album. The singers, Vishal Dadlani and Suraj Jagan, have done their best to make it work. Overall, the original is a little lackluster and disappointed. However, the remix version might hold better potential for most audiences.

Coming to the probably the most awaited song of the album, "Kites in the Sky". The song, which got a lot of media attention due to featuring the singing debut of Hrithik Roshan, is simply beautiful. The lyrics of this English song are written by Asif Ali Beg. The singers Suzanne DMello, Javed Dayma and Hrithik himself have done amazing work together. The song is a soft number. Suzanne is the first one that we hear and she steals the limelight with her beautiful voice. Later, Hrithik makes an appearance in the song for a short span of 45 seconds but still manages to capture your attention. His voice complemented Suzanne's very well. A slow track has very minimal instruments in the background, which would pose a bigger challenge for almost any singer. Hats to off to the singer and the lyricist for succeeding in producing the true gem of the album.

The next one is "Fire", sung by Rajesh Roshan, Vishal Dadlani, Anirudh and Anushka Manchanda. "Fire" is a four and half minutes song mostly instrumental song with minimal singing that is heard towards the very end. The techno sound adds to the excitement to the atmosphere of the album. The song is perfect to set the dance floor ablaze and is already quite popular within the youth. Hrithik's tremendous dance moves in the video of the song are also something to watch out for. The English version of this song is equally powerful and holds a similar feel. Definitely check the song out!

Overall, the music of the film is unique and fresh. It provides a welcome change from the monotony of the music we hear nowadays. Though not for everyone, the music does hold a wide appeal among numerous genres. With Kites, Rajesh Roshan has proved himself once again to be one of the best music composers of Bollywood.

Our picks: Zindagi, Dil Kyun Ye Mera, Fire, and Kites in the sky.
