Caught under the scanner in this week's section of Couple of the Week is none other than the much-in-love and perhaps the cutest couple in B-Town - Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza.
Riteish Deshmukh, son of the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh, started his acting career with the movie Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003). Despite the movie not garnering much success, Deshmukh went on to star in a number of successful films and is now a well established actor mostly known for his fabulous comic timing. An architect by profession, the multi-talented Deshmukh recently started his own production company, which has produced hit Marathi films such as Balak Palak and the recently released Yellow. He is also the owner and captain of the team 'Veer Marathi' in the Celebrity Cricket League.
Genelia D'Souza was born to a Mangalorean Catholic family based in Mumbai. After working in a few commercials, including her debut advertisement for the popular brand Parker with legendary Amitabh Bachchan, she stepped into Bollywood with Tujhe Meri Kasam opposite Deshmukh. She moved on to make a career in the Telugu and Tamil film industry, where she is now a household name after giving stellar performances in films like Boys, Santosh Subramaniam and others. After a rather long hiatus from Bollywood, she returned with the successful romantic-comedy Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa, and proved her mettle as a talented actress. After her marriage to Deshmukh, she has not been very active in films, but is the brand ambassador of Fanta, Virgin Mobile India Fastrack, LG Mobiles, Garnier Light, Margo and Perk in India. She is also a well known face at various socialite events and ramp walks.
The duo first met at the Hyderabad Airport back in 2002 for the shooting of their debut film Tujhe Meri Kasam. Prejudice held D'Souza from interacting with Deshmukh who belonged to an influential family. However, time crossed out the differences between the two, leading to mutual friendship and respect. They also acted in the popular comic caper Masti and it was during this movie that they entered another level of comfort with one another.
Being from a non-filmy background, the two chose to keep their relationship hidden from the media's eye under the pretext of being "just good friends". However, people caught the scent of a brewing romance when Deshmukh was seen at the premiere of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. All speculations were confirmed when D'Souza graced Aladin's premiere.
The paparazzi caught the couple together at various moments, including one where the two celebrated Deshmukh Sr's appointment of Central Minister of Heavy Industries. Later, tension was said to infuse the pair due to link-ups with respective co-stars, but the rumors died a natural death followed by the couple's appearance at the Mumbai Police Umang red carpet.
After the rumor mills ceased, the two went back to posing indifferently by arriving at various events separately. Despite their performances with each other at Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar's parties, no one suspected a thing until about two months later when the duo publicly announced their wedding plans around the same time of the release of their third movie together - Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. They finally tied the knot on 3rd February 2012 in a Maharashtrian as well as Catholic ceremony.
They had been together for a solid nine years before finally tying the knot, and the couple literally grew together in that time. Their story is inspirational for many as they managed to cross numerous hurdles and stood by each other through thick and thin. BollyCurry wishes the couple a happy life ahead and hopes that they continue to set such a positive example of friendship and love.
