Birthdays are a joyous time and so today BollyCurry has the
pleasure in bringing to you an amazing celebrity who celebrates her
birthday today, the one and only Asha Parekh
Born on 2nd
October, 1942, Parekh was born into a middle-class Gujarati family in
Mumbai to a Hindu father and a Muslim mother. She was enrolled in Indian
classical dance classes at a very young age, which served to be useful
in her days ahead at the Indian film industry.
Parekh started her career as a child artist in Aasmaan
(1952) under the screen name of Baby Asha Parekh
. She was then cast in Baap Beti
(1954) at the age of twelve by director Bimal Roy. She started her career as an adult actress with Dil Deke Dekho
(1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor.
enacted a wide variety of roles in her career, starting with glamour
girl roles and then transitioning to serious and tragic roles, including
various dramatic roles as well a few cameos for special directors. As
her career passed on and her time of playing roles as the leading lady
slowly came to an end, Parekh took on the supporting roles of bhabhi (sister-in-law)
and mother, though she often considered this to be an awkward phase in
her life. Parekh then went on to act in a Gujarati serial Jyoti and
formed her own production company, Akruti, and produced several
serials. She has received many awards in her career so far, including
being honoured with the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 1992.
Parekh remains unmarried to this day as it was often rumoured that she was mostly felt to be unapproachable.
