Monsoon. The word itself creates a whirlwind of emotions within our hearts. It makes us want to go out and search for the rain that will wash away our worries, refreshing us as we dance and loose ourselves in the beautiful, warm showers. So while you enjoy the monsoon with a cup of chai and a plate of bhajjiya, BollyCurry presents to you some of the most memorable rain scenes of recent times!

Lagaan

The Oscar nominated movie starring the perfectionist Aamir Khan won accolades for its unique theme and beautiful portrayal. The rain scene of when the drought ends due to the erupting rainstorm, making the villagers of Champaner jump for joy, is perhaps the most memorable scene in the film. It stood out plainly due to the faith of villagers, which had won against the tyranny of the British. The happy triumph that spread among the village folk, their faces glowing with their win and their smiles illuminating the world makes the scene heartrendingly beautiful. What tops it up is the involvement of all the elements of monsoon; the wait of the parched villagers and the joy of when it the heavens finally open.

Aashiqui 2

Probably the most famous of recent times, Aashiqui 2 had everyone talking about it's much-hyped rain sequence. The scene where the two young lovers loose themselves in each others company on a busy road in the pouring rain, was nothing less than mesmerizing. The act of the magical moment of when Rahul catches up to Aarohi on the road, wordlessly draping his coat over both their heads and the silent confession that follows, makes this scene one of it's kind. As for Aarohi's signature pose during the kiss, dropping her sandals whilst popping her foot, how could one not love this scene?

3 Idiots

The top grossing film tells the story of ambitious Indians and the ruthless education system. After being caught red handed while stealing exam papers, the Dean, Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe, immediately expels Farhan and Rancho out of the college while their friend Raju tags along with them, despite not being involved in the thievery. Meanwhile, Dr. Sahastrabuddhe's elder daughter experiences labour pains and due to the deluge, an ambulance cannot take her to a hospital. While the troubled father stands alone, helplessly in the heavy showers, the three friends see the mother-to-be in pain and without wasting any time, take the matters in their own hands. Using their knowledge, the trio deliver the baby with assistance from Pia, the Dean's younger daughter. All izz well when the three engineers successfully deliver the healthy baby, not only terminating their expulsion from the college but also changing the mindset of a man who had lost more than he had gained by following his suffocating beliefs.

Band Baaja Baraat

The films dealt with confused lovers who are business partners in the world of organizing marriages. It contained the right mix of romance, fun, frolic, ambitions and Delhi! The scene that made it into our list is when Bitto (Ranveer Singh) and Shruti (Anushka Sharma) are up for their final assignment and just a day before the wedding, heavy rains ruin all the decorations Shruti had planned. While Bitto desperately tries to salvage the situation, Shruti vents her anger at him, telling him that it is too late to save what is long lost. As Bitto struggles with his newly found feelings for Shruti, she makes it clear that her feelings for him were genuine but now a thing of past. Emotions are high as the rain keeps pouring and the realization of what he has lost settles in.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

It's all about loving your family, reads the film's tagline. And how truly it is depicted in the entire movie. Rahul, due to his father's disapproval, is on his way to inform Anjali that despite his love for her, he cannot marry her. However, when he reaches there, he discovers that her father has passed away. Not being able to see the love of his life in pain and all alone in the world, he decides to listen to his heart and get married to her. After binding in holy matrimony and bringing his new wife home, Rahul is disowned by his father and is banished from his house. Taking place amidst a powerful monsoon, the smooth editing transitions, the haunting background music and the memorable presentation of funeral and marriage, makes this scene as one of the most memorable the blockbuster movie.

Hum Tum

The rom-com featuring Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan was an expected box office hit. The last scene where both characters reunite after many years and profess their love for one another, is what makes it in our list. It is the perfect setting for a confession as it suddenly begins to rain, out of the blue and without any forewarning. But of course, as it is said repeatedly in the movie, "Tum samne aye, kuch galat toh hona hi tha." However, we aren't complaining. The passionate hug between the two lovers when they come face to face doesn't give us much chance to think about anything else other than the tear-worthy reunion and the power of their love.

 Wake Up Sid

The coming of age film scripts the story of a carefree and irresponsible young lad and how his life changes with the help of an older and maturer girl. The near climax scene of when Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) reads Ayesha's (Konkona Sen Sharma) article and it begins to rain is truly breathtaking. As he runs to meet her, her article read as a monologue, we are shown the glimpses of her life as a 'New Girl In the City" and how one man managed to make her life beautiful. The article is a cryptic confession of her feelings for Sid, and when he arrives at where she is waiting for him, at Marine Lines, in the pouring rain completely drenched, no speeches are made when he just simply utters, "I love you too". These words and the pure emotions make this scene one of the most memorable monsoon scenes of all time.

Certain settings evoke certain emotions, rain being the one which evokes all the emotions of love. These were just a few stand-out scenes in the hordes of scenes shot in the rain. We hope you enjoyed them! What are your favorites?
