Comedians are known for their immaculate timings, witty one liners, hilarious jokes and of course, comical acting. 19th March holds a very important day for these comedians as this day signifies the 'Let's Laugh Day' throughout the world. Hence on this occasion, BollyCurry brings to you the famous comedians of Bollywood, who with their spot-on comic timing have successfully managed to capture millions of hearts across the world.

Johny Lever
This man is one of the first to come to mind when mentioning Bollywood comedy. Starting off as a stage performer in Hope 86, he has about 350 movies to his credit. Johny Lever, the 'King of Comedies' as he is tagged, has become an ongoing inspiration for those who want to try their hand at comedy. Lever received wide recognition in the film Baazigar and is remembered for his dialogues in the famous Abba Dabba Jabba. He is also known for stand-up comedy and mimicking, especially his impression of Michael Jackson at the 1999 Filmfare Awards.

Rajpal Yadav is yet another memorable comedian of Bollywood, well known for his unconventional comedy sequences. Yadav is most remembered for his role in Main Mere Pati Aur Woh for which he was critically acclaimed for as well. Hungama, Waqt: The Race of Time, Malamaal Weekly and Chup Chup Ke are few other films that have earned him a good name in the industry.

Mehmood Ali
Mehmood Ali, the yesteryear king of comedy ruled millions of hearts in the 1960s. He started his career as a comedian at a time when comedy as a genre was still taking it's nascent footsteps in Bollywood. He was so spot on that his films were more remembered for his perfect comic timing rather than their other aspects. His comic timing, inimitable style and flair brought the much needed versatility to Bollywood, making him a star of the era. Some of the movies he starred in were Gumnam, Pyar Kiye Ja, Pyar Hi Pyar, Love in Tokyo, Bhoot Bangla and Bombay to Goa to name just a few.

Govinda (Arun) Ahuja
Govinda is considered to be the king of comic heroes, someone who can easily make you go on a laughing trail with his impeccable timing. His first release, IIzaam, was a box office success making it the fifth biggest hit of that year. In his initial career, most of his performances were either family oriented, romantic or action. It wasn't until the 1990s that he started shining in the comedy genre. He signed about 17 films, all directed by David Dhawan, most of which were comedy. Some of the films he appeared in were Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Deewana Mastana, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Ankhen, among others.
Paresh Rawal, famously known as the Hera Pheri man, has been entertaining the audience with his humorous comedy since the past three decades. Though he debuted with Holi, it wasn't until the 1986 Blockbuster Naam that he first tasted success. The superhit Hera Pheri was just the beginning for Rawal as it not only opened another door for him but also gave him his first Best Comedy Actor award from the prestigious Filmfare. Ever since he has been seen in many different successful comedy movies such as Awara Pagal Deewana, Garam Masala, Deewane Huye Pagal, Malamaal Weekly, Golmaaal: Fun Unlimited and many more.

Arshad Warsi, also known as Circuit, is yet another famous comedian seen in many Bollywood movies. His character in the comedy film Munnabhai MBBS opposite Sanjay Dutt not only gained him critical acclamation but earned him the fame which his previous movies couldn't. He has since appeared in various films, some of them include Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiyaa, Salaam Namaste, Golmaal, Kabul Express, and Laage Raho Munnabhai which won him his first Best Comedy Actor award from Filmfare.
Shakti Kapoor is one of the most able actors of Bollywood when it comes to his act as a villan and comedian. He has starred in over 400 films throughout his career, starting with small roles. He didn't achieve success till 1980-81 when two of his releases, Qurbani and Rocky, were declared blockbusters. It wasn't till the 1990s that he started taking up comedy films. Few of these which he has completed over the course of his career are Insaaf, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Andaz Apna Apna, Tohfa, Chaalbaaz and Raja Babu for which he won the title of the Best Comedian.

Govardhan Asrani
Another one of 1980's famous comedian is Govardhan Asrani. He was a popular comedian and is still seen in supporting roles. His latest films include Malamaal Weekly, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Garam Masala, Dhamaal, Chup Chup Ke and others. He has also won the Filmare awards for Best Comedian for movies sch as Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Balika Badhu

Along with the comedians mentioned above, Bollywood has also seen few others who have successfully tried their hands in the comedy genre and need notable mention; Boman Irani, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt to name a few.

As we depart on this note, do leave your feedback on your favourite comedians and keep laughing!
