The year 2012 has seen many trends, one among those trends was the debutantes, some singers, some actors! Here are a few debuts that entered Tinsel Town this very year and won many hearts along the way!
Both his debut movie, Vicky Donar and song, written and sang by him, Pani Da have gone on to become one of the biggest hits of the year. Unlike most debutantes, Ayushmann chose to debut in a rather serious movie which discussed the repercussions of sperm donating. As a result, the movie was claimed as a Box Office Hit and won him the Rising Filmstars of the Year in Gold Awards and Best Debut in Music for Pani Da Rang in Global Indian Music Awards. He was also named Emerging Talent of the Year by GQ India Men of the Year.
The very same film, Vicky Donor also saw the debut of Yami Gautam in Bollywood. She initially starred in Indian TV commercials and soap operas and also appeared in some regional films. In her debut, she was given the role of a Bengali girl in love with a Punjabi boy. The much loved on screen couple of Gautam and Khuranna will again be seen on the big screen next year in Hamara Bajaj. The gal also won Rising Filmstars of the Year in Gold Awards and was nominated for Fresh Entry of the Year in Dainik Bhaskar Bollywood Web Awards 2012.
Paoli Dam made her debut in Hate Story as Kavya, a journalist who was deceived and therefore became a sex worker. The movie received critical acclaim for being the most riveting saga of a woman's revenge against a man who broke her heart. Paoli has acted in several Bengali films. She was also led into controversy in India when a sex scene from her film Mushrooms was leaked onto the Internet before the movie released. She is shooting for Vikram Bhatt's next production directed by Sohail Tatari, in which she will play the character of a lawyer.
Esha Gupta is a one-of-a-kind debutante, starring in 3 films in her first year instead of one like majority debuts.The three she was seen in this year were, Jannat 2, Raaz 3D, and Chakravyuh. She is signed on for a 3-film contract with Vishesh Films, Mahesh Bhatt's production house. Critics called Esha a fresh and captivating charm. Audience brace yourselves because the fresh face is coming back again in a Vishesh Film in 2013!
Arjun Kapoor, the son of Boney Kapoor and step son of Sridevi appeared in Bollywood this year with Ishaqzaade as the male lead! The lad stole many hearts with his "I-don't-give-a-damn" rough youngster character, Parma. Arjun has gone on to receive both critical and commercial acclaim. He will be appearing in 5 high profile productions including Aurangzeb, Gunday, Virus Diwan, 2 States, and Mr. India 2. However, this was not his first or last appearance in the film industry. Arjun has worked as an assistant producer for No Entry, Wanted, and Milenge Milenge. He was also assistant director for Shakti: The Power, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Salaam-E-Ishq.
Like many Indian models, Diana made an entry into Bollywood after a long search for a fresh face. Imtiaz Ali wanted to cast Diana opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar, however she was replaced by Nargis Fakhri. Since Imtiaz Ali was the co-writer of the script for Cocktail he suggested Diana's name and it was later accepted. Diana portrayed the character of Meera, a simple Indian girl with traditional values. She received praise and accolades for her acting and dancing skills by both viewers and critics.
A Canadian actress, business woman and an adult movie actress, Leone met director Mahesh Bhatt while participating in Bigg Boss Season 5. Through the show, she was given the opportunity to debut in Jism 2. She has now been signed on to Ekta Kapoor's sequel to Ragini MMS. Critics claimed that Sunny's performance was the only attention-grabbing part of the film. However, there were many protests by social conservatives across India against the promotion of Sunny Leone.
Ileana D'Cruz made her Bollywood debut in Barfi! and received critical appreciation for her performance. She played the role of a narrator starring alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Many critics said that this role is a testament to her Telugu fans considering her to be a superstar. She has signed on her second Hindi film, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, opposite Shahid Kapoor, expected to release sometime in 2013.
And now it's time for the students of the year! First up is Alia Bhatt. The star daughter of this list, Alia Bhatt's father is Mahesh Bhatt, and elder sister is Pooja Bhatt. Critics and viewers both loved Alia Bhatt in Student of the Year. Critics called her cute and extremely photogenic as the clueless Shanaya. Alia has also appeared in Sangharsh as the young Preeti Oberoi. And she has been signed on for 2 States which will be releasing next year.
Another student of the year was Siddharth Malhotra. He stole the hearts of many with his sweet charming role of Abhimanyu, with the shades of a hot hunk. Siddharth has had much experience in the Bollywood industry first as a model and then as an assistant director on the sets of My Name is Khan. He has gone on to sign a 2-film deal with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures.
And our final student of the year and hottie of the year is Varun Dhawan. The last star son of the list and of the debutantes, Varun is David Dhawan's son and is the younger brother of Rohit Dhawan, who made his directorial debut with Desi Boyz. Along with Siddharth Malhotra, he was also an assistant director on the sets of My Name is Khan. And also much like Siddharth, Varun stole the hearts of many with his acting, dancing, and extremely good physique. Varun has tentatively been announced as starring in Maneesh Sharma's next film opposite Parineeti Chopra though nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
