365 days is enough time for anyone to change their life, if not completely than at least by taking the first steps. In an industry that half revolves around fashion, our dear B-Town ladies have it hard in keeping us skeptical beings happy. But those who have bravely experimented with their looks and emerged victorious by giving us some very stunning and memorable sightings at various events should be commended. So as the year draws to an end, BollyCurry presents you the Fashionistas of 2013.
Our very own 'Yummy Mummy', Karisma Kapur
, might be out of sight from the big screen but she is clearly not out of our minds. From multiple brand endorsements to launching her very own book, Kapur has had quite a busy year. 2013 has seen her experimenting with various looks from chic Western to traditional Indian, successfully managing to pull most of the looks with complete ease.
Most of Kapur's appearances saw her sporting black but the one that stood out the most was a Tom Forde skirt-suit with a Bebe blue top. That side chignon did much justice to her sharp and beautiful face. She also carried a Hermes Medor clutch and finished off the look with some peep-toe heels.
In a complete contrast, we saw Kapur attend the Asiavision Television Awards in a blue and golden anarkali
dress by Nupur Kanoi, paired with golden sandals and Aquamarine jewelry. With her hair let down loose, she looked fresh and simply breathtaking.
Padukone has had a pretty busy year to tend to. With three major releases in 2013, it wasn't surprising that she was seen just about everywhere. Do we complain? No, because not only did she charm everyone on-screen, but her off-screen appearances also worked wonders.
At the Nickelodeon India Awards, Padukone kitted up in a black dress with a colorful Quirk Box jacket, an outfit in par with a kiddie event. Hair pulled up in a beautiful up-do and sun-kissed makeup made her look even more desirable. Accessorized with a Mehak Gupta statement necklace and finished off with a pair of gorgeous pumps, we just have one word - stunning.
On the other hand, she went for a floor length, beige colored Sabyasachi kurta/lehenga at a promotional event for her movie Ram-Leela in Kolkata. Hair half tied, dark make-up and accessorized with Amrapali jewelry, it's a traditional look done rather wonderfully, don't you think so?
The widely acclaimed fashionista of Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor
, had a real good run this year as far as fashion was concerned. Never the type to play it safe, it's no wonder she is always on the radar of fashion crazies like us.
At the Filmfare Magazine launch in Delhi, Kapoor brought the runway to the streets. And goodness, just how beautifully she carried the Indian sari by Manish Arora with her hair classily done in an up-do and cleverly accessorized with heart shape earrings. The make-up was shimmering and did just right; truly, a flawless appearance.
Then there was one of the mature looks of the lady at a magazine issue launch where she opted for a grey Gucci dress. She went Gucci all the way with her necklace and bag, finishing it off with black kitten heels. What worked here was the choice of fetching red lipstick which colored up the otherwise potentially somber look.
Kajol was seen attending various events for social causes this year and through it all, she truly changed her otherwise forgettable fashion sense. She went out of her comfort zone and experimented with various looks but few can do a sari better than her.
At the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer collections, it took us a while to spot Kajol who looked completely different from what we're used to. Draped in a smokey gray sari with a heavy sequined and double-neon border, she stunned all in the Manish Malhotra design. The see-through blouse and side bun all worked to perfection. We rarely see this immensely talented actress on the ramp but this appearance was sure worth it.
Sabyasachi seems to have found a new muse in Kajol having been spotted in more and more of his creations. Out of his works so far, the light-eyed actress has looked her best in the golden net and green blouse ensemble at the tribute concert for ghazal singer Jagjit Singh's seventy-second birthday. With the rosey make-up, loose braid and lack of adornments besides the jhumkas, she reminds us of a beautiful era gone by.
Ranaut always possessed a truly remarkable fashion sense and more often than not, she has made some superbly unforgettable appearances in the past. It felt good to see that 2013 didn't deter her fashion sense as she continued to deliver what is expected of her - some old world charm with a dash of modern day vibes.
At a dinner party hosted by A Small World, Ranuat was seen in a cobalt blue Rohit Gandhi+Rahul Khanna dress and boy, did she looked bewitching! She carried the dress amazingly with the silver pumps matching well with the frock. The lack of accessories didn't dampen the overall look and the loosely done up hair served justice to the outfit.
Ranuat went all black at the Grey Goose 'Style Du Jour' party with a pre-Fall Gucci collection dress. She matched the sparkly gown with a black studded clutch and chose not to accessorize with anything extra. A very clever move, must we say. The hot red lipstick and the soft blown curly hairdo made her look ravishing. Just perfect!
Well, there you have it, some of the spectacular looks from this year's fashionistas. As the New Year reigns in closer, we hope to see the standard set by those of the years gone by rise higher and brighter. But till then, comment and tell who do you think was the true Fashionista of 2013.
