Bollywood's favorite 'Bajirao' aka Ajay Devgn who ruled the box office with many hits is back again with his 'Singham' director Rohit Shetty in 'Singham Returns'. In an interview with india-forums.com the intense actor with brooding eyes talks about 'Singham Returns', co-star Kareena Kapoor and his relation with Shah Rukh Khan.
What is different this time in 'Singham Returns'?
Bajirao's overall personality is technically the same. But this time in Mumbai, he has bigger challenges to face. Though he handles the issues with his trademark style, problems he faces are much more serious. Also, the romantic angle is different. We have also tried to improve the action sequences, making them more realistic. In the last 'Singham', the hero handled 10 goons at a time but this time you can also witness 'Singham' taking a beating. We have shot in some places in Mumbai where nobody else has shot earlier.
What do you like most about your co-star Kareena Kapoor?
I have known Bebo for quite some time now so there is certain comfort level which can be seen in our performance too. What I like most about her is she is a talented actress and though she considers herself smart in reality she is nave and simple. What I consider her drawback is that she loves to gossip! (Laughs)
People say your chemistry is awesome on screen, what is your comment on that?
I can't define the word 'chemistry'. If your character is strong the chemistry works, if the script is strong the chemistry works but if both these fail even the best performance of an actor can't make it work.
How would you define your relation with director Rohit Shetty?
Don't you think it's too late to analyze our relation now?!! I met Rohit 25 years back on the sets of my first movie where he was an assistant director. He has come a long way since then with his hard work. He works non-stop even after the shoot is over.
Does it mean you have blind faith in him?
Off course I have full faith in him, but before we finalize anything we always discuss things with each other.
Looks like you and Shah Rukh have patched up your differences. He even visited your sets. Comment.
First of all, there were no differences between us, so no question of patch-up. We are not buddies but that doesn't mean that we are enemies. Yes, he dropped in on my sets but that's it. We might have had some issues 20 years back but that was then when we were young. Now after so many years it's foolish to delve into the past. Since we are from the same entertainment industry, we always will be there for each other as colleagues.
Being in Mumbai, how much of a Maharashtrian are you?
Since childhood, we have been surrounded by Maharashtrian culture so I am not new to it. Kajol too is half-maharashtrian. I can understand Marathi fully but can't speak that fluently. During Singham's north promotion, it was fun to watch North-Indian guys saying 'Ata majhi satakli'.
