Today, June 14th, marks the annual World Blood Donor Day. The event is a world wide awareness campaign that urges individuals across the globe to donate blood and help save lives. Typical blood donations in the US are 1 pint (450 milliliters) and each donation can help upto three patients in need! The World Health Organization (WHO) partners up with countries across the world to promote donating blood as a heroic act - the central theme for 2012. They say that "every blood donor is a hero" and our very own Bollywood celebs came forward to reinforce the message and try to make everyone a bit more aware about the cause.

Popular actor Sonu Sood of Dabangg fame supported the cause by telling everyone that "Donating blood can save a life. It takes very little time out of your day, and is a great service to humankind. If your health permits it, I encourage everyone to give blood on this day."

Actress Chitrashi Rawat reminded everyone of the benefits of blood donation and how to go about it by saying "My humble request to all who are reading this that please spread awareness of donating blood. By donating blood you can save many lives and improve the health of others. And by regularly giving blood can prevent the shortages in hospitals and clinics, particularly in India as the quantity is very limited. Besides, blood donation is an excellent way to get rid of excess iron from our body. It also stimulates the production of new blood cells and refreshes our system. A lot of people are unaware of that. I've donated blood in the past and I'll continue to. The feeling of saving someone's life is wonderful. Its very simple; you can go to any local donation center, fill a form, get a few tests done and then you're good to go. Don't forget 14th june is World Blood Donor Day. Do your bit!!"

When asked about her views on blood donation, reality TV star Kashmira Shah kept it short and simple "Blood saves life so please donate blood and save lives."

Bollywood actress and Norwegian model Mahek Chahal urges everyone to join this cause by saying "With the unpredictability of life, every human should take a responsibility to save lives & donating blood is just one of them. Donated blood will regenerate in your body in some hours but it will also save someone's life. So go ahead & donate & help make a difference."

Barun Sobti, who has just embarked on his Bollywood journey with yet to be released Main Aur Mr. Right feels that it is everyone's duty to donate blood. He told us,"No second thoughts about donating blood cause it is a noble cause. In addition, it's also healthy for the being because it helps in constructing new blood cells"

Jackky Bhagnani, seen in F.A.L.T.U, has some strong feelings on the subject and calls everyone to do their part. He said "Friends you can donate blood every six months to save a life, I do it and it makes me feel like I have done a small bit!! It's World Blood Donor day and it's time you joined it and made a difference!!"

On World Blood Donor Day, like numerous of your favorite B-town celebs, BollyCurry too urges you to help out and do your part by donating blood and saving lives.
