when writing that repertoire of her work, you forget her as a the comical genius. She was great at comedy and her best films over that genre were "Kohinoor" with Dilip Kumar and "Miss Mary" with Gemini Ganesan. And the best film I liked from Meena is the piognant story of the young wife stuck in the "Daayra" created by her creators. It was directed by Vijay Anand. Nothing can be more tragic, realistic and revolting that "Daayra".

Meena Kumari was the winner of first film fare in best actress category in 1954 for Baiju Bawra. She repeated this again in 1955 for Parinita. During those time best actress meant best actress no lead, no supporting or no comic role etc.

Thanks for the article. Great actress and great loss to the film industry. 40 years since her death but she still lives on in our heart.
