Everyone remembers Shenaz Treasurywala, the bubbly beauty who is well known for being one of the most popular MTV VJs, starring in the show MTV's Most Wanted amongst other events for MTV Networks Asia. She initially took her step into the glamor world via the modeling sector after being discovered by a photographer during the first year of college and proceeded to appear in ads for companies such as Akai and Philips. In 2003, she appeared in the supremely successful Ishq Vishq and was even nominated for a Filmfare for her role! Since then, she has starred in movies such as Hum Tum (2004), Umar (2006), Aagey Se Right (2009) and will be seen in the upcoming Delhi Belly (2011) opposite Imran Khan.
Well, if you were wondering, what this talented starlet has been up to recently, we have the latest news straight from the horse's mouth! She is currently in New York shooting for the popular American soap One Life To Live. The show is one of the longest running and popular soaps in America. The show has been on air since 1968 and only looks to get better with Shenaz's addition to the cast!
We have been really grateful to get the story behind the casting from Shenaz herself! This is what she has to say about the whole thing:
"A few months ago, I came to the States for a wedding and my co-star in Delhi Belly, Poorna (my darling super-talented, best friend, guiding light and angel) was generous to introduce me to her agent who sent me to an audition and I landed a role on the most popular American soap on ABC.
The audition process itself took a couple of months. I had to go through many rounds and out of 1000s of girls in LA and NY they chose 15 and then 9 and then finally 2. I was one of the two. I waited a few weeks with bated breath.
In the end, they called me and told me I did NOT get the role [be]cause I just did not suit the character, no matter how hard they tried and they had to give it to the other girl who was equally good, blonde and a star from another soap.
I was very disappointed and was ready to return to India but they stopped me and said they are writing a role for me because they really liked what they saw :) SO THEY WROTE ME A SPECIAL ROLE.
Of course I was over the moon, since this is ABC!
On the sets with the girl who got the initial role I auditioned for: we're good friends now and I play Rama Patel, a sexy, manipulative Indian girl.
Famous actors who started their careers in American soaps, including the one I am in are:
Kevin Bacon, Marisa Tomei, Julianne Moore , Meg Ryan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt , Lindsay Lohan, Susan Sarandon, Mischa Barton, Kim Delaney, Lauren Holly, Eva LaRue, Jesse McCartney, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Laura San Giacomo, Christian Slater, Demi Moore, Eva Longoria Parker, Tommy Lee Jones, David Hasselhoff, Tom Selleck.
So, I decided to go home, say bye to friends and family, pack up my bags and move to NY for the winter months to do this role."
For the uninitiated, One Life to Live is a daytime American soap on one of the leading television networks ABC. The show is set in the fictional suburb of Llanview near Philadephia, Pennsylvania. It focuses on the happenings around the wealthy Lord family, the less wealthy and Jewish Siegels, the middle-class families of the Rileys and Woleks, and the African-American Grays. The show has had numerous additions and changes in cast in storylines, but not lost its popularity over the past 5 decades! It has even won over 40 daytime Emmy Awards. The show is currently aired at 2pm EST/1pm PST on ABC and at 9pm on SOAPnet in the US.
We, at BollyCurry, want to congratulate Shenaz and wish her the best of luck. If possible, do check her show out!
