Rahul Seth is a multifarious man in the music industry and has proved it with his recent work in Yamla Pagla Deewana.

Rahul in a candid chat with Bollycurry shared his experiences as a lyricist, composer and a singer.

Excerpts !!!

How was the experience working for Yamla Pagla Deewana?
The experience has been tremendous with the three Deols in it and bonding with an icon and an institution like Dharmendra is great.

Yamla Pagla Deewana has a compilation of composers working together; how was the experience?
Yamla Pagla Deewana music has been composed by different people and I composed the song Chada De Rang for the movie. There are also other songs in the film which are shown in the film but not on television. They are made for the film viewers. All the songs in the movie are doing really well and I am really happy about it.
What was your reaction when you came to know that you are going to compose for Dharmendra?
My first reaction on meeting Dharam ji at his house was of complete awe. He had written this amazing song titled "Kadd Ke Botal" which he kept reciting with such infectious enthusiasm, it completely bowled me over. And when Dharam ji came to know that the Late veteran actor Majnu is my nanaji, he hugged me with immense warmth & gave me his blessings. He then went back in time & nostalgically shared with me memories of my nanaji's movies & how motivated he felt watching him act on screen. It was indeed a great moment for me to share such memories with Dharam ji. He is a great & a genuine man indeed.

How is your association with the director Samir Karnik?
I have worked with Sameer in his film Heroes and the association has been there since then. We share a nice bond and rapport and the comfort level is more than a friend.

How has been the journey in music till date?
The journey has been great wherein I started my journey from South Africa where I did my initial days of my education. Music has been my passion and I always wanted to be a complete artiste.

Today there are songs that are adopted from the old ones; what is your take on this?
I feel that reworking on a song and putting it across the public again is the greatest tribute that we can offer to the music directors who had composed them earlier. But at the same time the essence and the originality should be maintained with equal amount of freshness.

What do you feel about the music today? Do you think that the originality is lost?
In music we are just playing with the seven notes that we have and the usage depends on the creativity and the imagination of the composers. Using these notes to come up with something unique and original is completely on the minds of the directors. Today we feel the songs familiar to the older ones because they are coming from the same group from which we are trying different permutations and combinations.

Can you share with us about some of your works?
The special song for IPL Grand Finale IPL ka Jalwa (2009) was sung by me, I had created a special song against Global Warming, featuring 15 top singers of Bollywood. I had worked for Hari Puttar, Alag ect. I have also worked on various hindi versions of Hollywood movies and animations like I am a Legend (for Will Smith), The Dark Night (Harvey Dent), Tarzan, Lion King 1, Alladin & the King of Thieves, 101 Dalmations etc. I have also worked for advertisements like Aditya Birla Group, Lakme, Johnson & Johnson, AXIS Bank, Pepsodent etc.
