Tell us something about your present Bollywood projects.
This year I have 4 movies in the pipeline. First is 'Gupchup Gupchup' it is a romantic comedy wherein I have 6 female co-stars with me. In this movie I'm trying to con Om puri and get 2 crore rupees from him. It is expected to release this July/August.
Second one is, Mr. Fraud of Abbas Mustan where I do a fraud against Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu is also a part of the movie.
Third movie is 'Lashkar', here I'm enacting a negative role of a cop working for underworld. This movie is expected to release this September.
And forth movie is 'Tomorrow'; in this I'll be enacting the character of an underworld Shooter.
There's another movie which is in the row but I can't talk about it as of now. But I'm very excited about this movie.
As you'll be seen enacting variant roles so how was the experience? Was it very difficult?
The experience has been very exhilarating. I do agree that enacting so many different characters is not an easy task but finally for an actor feeling the character is more important. And I have tried my best to feel every nuance of the characters.
So on what elements you had to work for portraying the character right?
See basically I believe in doing a lot of homework before enacting any character. So apart from the general research about underworld people their lifestyles specially for the movies Lashkar and Tomorrow I had to undergo a physical training where I was taught how to handle guns, how to load and unload the gun also I had been to a shooting rink for the same.
You have always been applauded for your acting so what are your expectations from the upcoming movies?
I agree that my acting talent has been appreciated a lot by the audience but yet I haven't been approached by Directors saying, "hey Anuj I have a role for you in my movie." Instead I have to call them and say, "Sir I'm looking out for work." So my first expectation would be that I receive more quality work here after.
And as an actor I try doing complete justice to my character. I give my best. On sets after giving a shot I never check it on the monitor. Because I feel director very well knows what he wants and if he feels something odd he would ask me to give a re take. And that's fine with me.
As of now you are pursuing Acting as a profession but you have a MBA degree also so are you putting that qualification to use also?
Certainly yes, I have an export business of a brand name 'Swift military'. My main motive of starting up this business was that I always wanted to have a financial banking for myself and my family.
Acting has been my passion but to get a right click in the field equal magnitude of luck is also required with talent. And I never wanted to have regrets in regards to finances.
You have grown in this industry on your own so how did the industry welcome you at the beginning?
See, the industry never welcomes anyone. Each person has to make a mark by his talent. This is a brutal place to be in. But people who desire to get in the industry should know what they are here for.
As in when I entered the industry I had decided that I won't compromise on my talent and won't take any stupid roles just to be in the industry.
In this industry looks are equally important and you are gifted with good looks along with talent so what's your take on it?
Yes, I completely agree to this looks do work as a plus point in the beginning though. But to remain consistent in the industry versatility in acting is also required. So good looks and talent should go hand in hand.
We have heard that you have also done an English movie 'Bride's Wanted? What's with the release?
Yes, it has been completed in 2006 but its release is stuck due to some financial issues. It was a bilingual movie and the story is somewhat a mix of hindi movie Whats' your Rashee and 3 Idiots.
So are you working on any other Hollywood movies?
In a way yes, I have an agent who has been pitching for me in Hollywood. If I'm offered an interesting role I would really take up.
Now that you have tried your hands on so many different characters so from your past movies which have been the most challenging role for you?
The most challenging role has been in the movie Tom, Dick and Harry where I played a character of a blind man. And to feel the world the way Blind people feel I not only visited a blind school but also roamed about in my house blind folded. And believe me have hurt myself a lot.
But then it worked out good on screen without looking foolish. (smiles)
Anuj there isn't much known about you expect your professional data. So what is your passion except acting?
Hmm..I like to go for outdoor trips especially trecking. One day when I feel very bored or feel like having a break I just pack my bag and go off.
And I'm like a closed book; I don't like to socialize much not a page 3 kind of a person. That could be one more reason why I don't get much work.
And how is Anuj Sawhney as a person?
He is a regular guy. Who doesn't just expect things from life but works for it too. And he doesn't like to hold regrets about anything in his life. (smiles)
Message for the audience.
