One looked forward to Hollywood release this week is the engaging young actress Anne Hathaway playing the legendary part of Jane Austen in ‘Becoming Jane’.
The biopic directed by Julian Jarrold that has its US release on August 3rd closely follows the life of the English writer that gave the literary world classics like ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ and ‘Emma’. Quite befittingly tagged as ‘ Jane Austen’s most extra ordinary romance was her own’, the story set in 1795 is an imaginative romantic comedy in the spirit of Jane Austen that places young Jane herself at the center of a witty, enchanting romance not unlike those that would later captivate millions in her celebrated works of literature. The film spins the few known facts surrounding Austen's real-life flirtation with the Irish lawyer, Tom Lefroy, into a tale about the kind of personal passion and social complications that could have inspired Jane to become the ingenious and utterly timeless observer of human relationships and romance that she soon did. Indeed, the story playfully references the characters and themes that wend their way through her six novels. The film also stars Maggie Smith, Julie Walters and James Cromwell.
Classic beauty Anne Hathaway has already proved her mettle in films like ‘Princess Diaries 1 and 2’, ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and most recently ‘The Devil wears Prada’. Naturally she seems to be the perfect choice to play the widely renowned and revered author whose works continue to inspire in various forms till date, across the world. Critical acclaim and box office success is widely expected. Looks like more fame and praise is beckoning Miss Hathaway.
