New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS) Climate change induced by humans is a reality and people have a 20-year window to adapt to global warming and ensure it does not go completely out of control, says Gregor Leckebusch of the Free University of Berlin.

The effects of climate change are not linear, and they vary in scales of time and space, Leckebusch pointed out while summing up the deliberations of a one-day seminar on climate change here Thursday.

The seminar was organised by the Centre for Media Studies as part of its fourth annual environment and wildlife film festival that is being held from Wednesday to Sunday. There are 275 films from 18 Indian states and 18 other countries at the festival, competing in 12 Indian and six international categories.

Climate change is the theme for this year's festival. At the daylong seminar, experts described the various effects of global warming that are already impacting everybody in India every day, such as the spread of malaria to new areas, more uncertain monsoons or a reduced fish catch in the Ganga delta.

The film festival featured powerful documentaries on environmental issues Thursday, including 'Tiger - The Death Chronicles', 'Hot as Hell', 'Turtles in a Soup', 'Hollow Cylinder' and 'Mumbai Mega Floods'.

I wish the environmental scientists would make public the ways to control global warming that we, as individuals, can do. Currently we want to stop it but have veru little idea how to.
