Agartala, June 21 (IANS) The environment and forest ministry in collaboration with an NGO will hold a travelling film festival in eight Indian cities to spread awareness on environment and wildlife issues, officials said here Saturday.

The ministry in association with the New Delhi-based Centre for Media Studies (CMS) will hold the third environment and wildlife travelling film festival in Bhopal from Aug 29, followed by Agartala, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Pune, Ranchi and Leh.

'Exhibitions and seminars on climate change, food security, water resources, environment and wildlife would also be held simultaneously during the three-day festivals in each city,' Ashwini Sinha, festival manager, told reporters.

Sinha said: 'Since 2002, such festivals were held in 16 cities across the country and over 500 internationally acclaimed films, mostly award winning, on environment and wildlife were screened to make people aware about nature and animals.'

Film makers, experts and environmentalists would take part in these festivals and seminars.

Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) and Cinedelve, a film society, are the state partners of the event in this northeastern state.

'The three-day festival would also explore issues of regional and local concern and these events are a part of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP),' said Mihir Deb, TSPCB chairman.

According to the CMS, special arrangements would be made in each city to bring school, college and university students to witness the film festivals and participate in the other events.
