Hyderabad, May 14 (IANS) The police here Wednesday arrested two people and seized 3,355 pirated CDs worth Rs.2.9 million during raids conductecd after a tip-off from the Indian Music Industry (IMI).
Two raids were conducted in the Koti area and pirated CDs of Playstation-II were seized. IMI investigators lodged a complaint with the police after confirming the manufacturing and sale of pirated CDs.
'IMI is committed to its fight against piracy and will ensure that 2008 yields quality results. The Indian Music Industry is suffering from huge losses because of piracy that not only hurts the commercial interests of licensed manufacturers but also has the potential of damaging the country's economic and social fabric,' said Savio D'Souza, IMI's general secretary.
The IMI is a consortium of over 100 music companies, including several prominent regional and national labels such as Saregama, Universal Music, Tips, Venus, BMG Crescendo Sony Music and Virgin.
It represents the recording industry of India and is affiliated to International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the world industry forum that has 1,450 members in 75 countries and industry organisations in 48 countries.
