Priyanka is "highly offended" by the "Murder" girl's statement at the recently concluded 66th Cannes International Film Festival.
"I think we are a progressive nation. I disagree that we are a regressive nation. We are all sitting here and talking about educating the girl child, taking our country forward. I think it's a misrepresentation of what our great nation is on the world platform," said the actress Monday at the launch of a mobile application by Unicef, of which she is an ambassador.
"It was something of which I felt extremely offended by," she added.
Calling Mallika's statement an "extreme misrepresentation" of India and "unfair", Priyanka said: "When it comes to Mallika's statements, I think they were very callous and I don't agree with her. It was upsetting for me as a woman. It was upsetting for me as a girl who comes from India. I think it was extreme misrepresentation of our nation. I don't think it's fair."
Hailing from a Jat family in Haryana, 36-year-old Mallika made her debut in Bollywood in 2003 with "Khwahish". Later, she went on to do international projects like Jackie Chan-starrer 2005 film "The Myth", followed by "Hisss" and "Politics of Love".

I m a big fan of priyanka chopra!!!
and I totally agree with her statement here..I dont say India is perfect..it is not but it is also progressive by progressive we mean we are working towards gicing women their rights..and a regressive nation means where we are taking away the rights already given to women...much like progressive and regressive evolution...
an increase from 0.35 to 0.5 is progressive and even a decrease from 0.98 to 0.97 is regressive...
so it doesnt indicate how good or bad a country is but which way it is leading-frontwords or backwards...and here can be no ambiguity about India..
The India she lives in is quite progressive but there's another part of India where woman are still not able to express themselves freely.
They are forced to keep their faces covered, they are banned from carrying mobiles, they are raped, they are judged on the basis of their clothing and lifestyle!
I don't understand how all this is not regressive?
And why is Ms. PC is so 'highly offended'?
For PC, India may not be regressive for her life is perfect but there are woman out there who fall prey to the regressive thinking of the society daily.
Having said this, Mallika is a stupid woman who half of the time talks rubbish. Her interview was hillarious.. She even claimed to be the first Indian woman to wear bikini onscreen! lol. But the regressive remarks, though harsh, were not fully baseless.

Exactly Agree with You Priyanka Chopra...Faults are in every nation that doesnt make India regressive ..will mallika jee had used her brain a lil bit
I agree with You Priyanka..though we are still not fully progressive & Woman abuse is happening everywhere..its got nothing to do with woman liberation..its our law which is not Good..I feel..& it can be said that its is MEN who are at fault not the country as a whole ...!!
Having lived outside India for past 15 years and learning about whole world .. guys.. India is no better or worse than any other country today when it comes to treating women/female.. We have come a long way, so progressive is the right world.. Progressive does not meant perfect.. And if it is about overall system, yes there are flaws but flaws are in system of each country. So many religions working together and so many women in powerful roles, such high ratio of girls going too professional colleges, very high ratio of girls outperforming boys in schools/colleges, female prime minister, female president, good or bad SOnia Gandhi is among top 50 most influential women in the world, you won't find these statistics in any other part of the world..
Well Iam with PC on this one however I dont think I would agree with the statement of "mera bharat mahaan" when theres so many misogynistic bas***ds out there who see women as a piece of meat. (Ok iam aware not all men are like that) I luv India a lot but there still needs to be progression in certain pockets of society where male domination needs to regress and gender equality needs to progress.
As u can see from my profile pic Iam a huge PC fan however Iam not afraid of admitting that yes India is progressive but not as a whole nation just yet. Iam still sickened to death after watching last week's crime patrol in which a girl was gangraped by 20 men and 2 of them happen to be passer bys. I cant take this sort of stuff anymore... And what about those two five year old girls from different states... God please knock some sense into ppl like these
