Bollywood star Salman Khan, who had launched an online petition asking for Sarabjit Singh's freedom in 2012, Thursday mourned the death of the Indian death row prisoner in Pakistan.
"Freedom at last. Hope they give him to his family. We all tried, guess not hard enough. May god give his family strength and his soul rests in peace," Salman posted on Twitter.
Last year, Salman had urged his fans and the public to join an online petition that he planned to give to the Pakistan government in a bid to free Sarabjit.
Sarabjit Singh, on death row in Pakistan after being convicted for terror strikes in the country, had been comatose since April 26, when he was savagely attacked by two fellow prisoners at Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail. He had spent over 20 years in jail.
Sarabjit Singh died early Thursday in a Lahore hospital.

Before this tragic incident, two of our soldiers were beheaded. One of the Indian prisoner Chamel Singh was brutally beaten to death. And then it happened with Sarabjit Singh. His was a mistaken identity where he was implicated as "Manjit Singh" by Pakistani courts. Moreover, he was never caught red handed. Just because he happened to be an Indian he was persecuted for that. A lot of Pakistanis are cursing him here without even acknowledging the mockery of justice carried out in their nation. They blame RAW for every incident in their country. And do not forget that lot of your dead soldiers were abandoned by your army in kargil war. Indians gave them dignified burial. In 1971, 90000 Pak soldiers who surrendered before Indian army were granted amnesty and sent back unharmed. Kasab who was caught red handed killing Indians was given fair trial and then hanged.
I never liked bollywood actors but now, im truly hating them. He killed 14 innocent humans! You were also the one happy over hanging of kassab! Why? Because he killed innocent indians right? So why double standards now? Hmm?
youve lost my respect.
