Mumbai, March 21 (IANS) Sanjay Dutt's conviction Thursday by the Supreme Court in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case has left the Hindi film industry in shock and dismay. Filmmakers like Mahesh Bhatt and Karan Johar are sad about the judgment for the "good-hearted" man, who has been entertaining movie-goers for the past over three decades.
The Supreme Court Thursday upheld Sanjay's conviction under the Arms Act for illegally possessing weapons, and sent him to five years' imprisonment.
Filmmakers and actors took to Twitter to share their views on the
conviction. Here's what they had to say:
Mahesh Bhatt: Heart Broken. Just heard that Sanjay Dutt has to go to jail for five years. I expected mercy! Alas, it did not happen.
Kunal Kohli: The real planners of the 1993 blasts are sitting safely in Pakistan. Till they are brought to book, justice will not be served. The 1993 blast case should not be made about Sanjay Dutt.
Karan Johar: I am truly shattered to hear of Sanju's sentence... the nicest guy I have known just doesn't deserve this. My heart goes out to him.
Vishal Dadlani">Vishal Dadlani: I stand with Sanjay Dutt, always will. He's my brother. He made mistakes, but he's served more than his time, in terms of mental stress. I am not contesting or denying the law, but it breaks my heart that he has to face this. He has done so much, so selflessly for so many! When I barely knew him, I needed some personal help in a family matter. I just asked, and Sanjay went above and beyond duty to help. I'm not denying the law. But am I not allowed to feel sad for a friend?
Shekhar Ravijani: He's the most loved person in the business. One of the nicest people I know. Man with a big heart. My brother. I am with Sanjay Dutt.
Ashish Chowdhry: There are bad guys, there are nice guys. Sanjay Dutt most definitely is the latter. By far he's the kindest and nicest guy I know. I'm really sad.
Aftab Shivdasani: Sad to know the verdict on Sanjay Dutt, my heart goes out to him and his family. He was a fighter, is one and will always be one.
Dabboo Ratnani: Shattered to hear about Sanjay Dutt. Love him. He is like my elder brother and has a pure heart of gold. God give him strength.
Celina Jaitly: I am shocked to hear the verdict on Mr. Dutt. My heart goes out to the Dutt family. We all love you Mr Dutt.

Think it's strange after the Delhi Gang Rape Incident suddenly India's laws are waking up to "punish the wrong" and lo and behold they have started with the people who can get the "most publicity" to show that India does have a "fair judicial trial"
He's sent to jail for possessing a weapon from some mafia Don apparently who was linked to the Mumbai attacks. It's unclear if Dutt was involved in the terrorist attacks or just paid him to obtain a weapon that was illegal to obtain. It took 20 years to make this decision? Strange...
Not sure what to think about this. I do feel bad for his children though. People commit crimes, but unfortunately their not the only ones who suffer for it. I pray for his children.

Wikipedia: " On the 21st of March, 2013, the Supreme Court of India observed that the conspirators of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, including Dawood Ibrahim, are living in Pakistan."
This is what Kunal Kohli was referring to!
I'm not a fan of any of the people who have spoken for this article but seriously??? some speak as if they know the whole event, and the "fans" use your brains no one is a saint and he couldn't have been put to jail without strong evidence otherwise they could have easily contested the decision
Everyone is talking about how Kunal Kohli should think before using his words..
I think he just meant that the real culprits are sitting in Pakistan - hes not blaming the country.. there is terrorism in india too and terrorists in our country.. Instead of passing such comments, you should hope the real culprits are found soon..
Even though I feel sad, I feel the SC did a right thing - setting an example, now ppl who are rich and famous would think twice before doing anything illegal.

Everyone is saying He did crime and he should get punished n all. Ok What if this wasn;t sanju but Salman khan..then all of u ppl would have supported salman..you saying this cuz its sanju. yah he did the crime..but im sure u wouldnt have said same about if it was salman.
how about you idiots put the real criminals in jail? I seriously have lost hope in the Indian law.
oh come on supreme court has imprisond him for 5 years that means they must have had some strong evidence against him.. stop supporting him just because he is a bollywood hero or he helped few ppl... he did crime and he must get punishment.. rule is rule, rule for all...
Kunal kohli ...WTH? please think before u get mouthy and all! :/
