Actress Alia Bhatt, who plays a Tamilian girl in "2 States", is not just trying to pick the accent but is also learning Bharatanatyam to play the South Indian girl with perfection.

Actress Alia Bhatt, who plays a Tamilian girl in "2 States", is not just trying to pick the accent but is also learning Bharatanatyam to play the South Indian girl with perfection.

The 19-year-old plays an Iyengar girl in the movie, based on Chetan Bagat's novel "2 States: The Story of My Marriage". The story revolves around a Punjabi boy who falls in love with a Tamil girl, and the ensuing cultural clashes between them and their families.

Alia, who made her debut with "Student Of The Year" last year, will feature opposite "Ishaqzaade" fame Arjun Kapoor in the film. She is learning Bharatanatyam to get into the character, said a statement.

The film "2 States" is directed by Abhishek Verman and co-produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala.

i too think tat alia is a litle young fr tis role YAMI was a better choice
she ll do really look much good wit arjun than alia
alia had to prefer roles in some college-based movies
but still all the best alia and 2 STATES

Ranbir Kapoor and Asin would have been a much better choice! Plus Asin is also south Indian.

Puhleez go take some acting lessons then we can talk about dancing. She was so expressionless in that Radha song... Good luck to her...

Thank god the movie was more about Varun n Sid cos they were definitely the saving grace in the movie. She was more like a plastic sidey.

Bad Choice! The makers will regret it! Just because shes Mahesh Bhatt's daughter, doesnt make sense giving her such demanding roles. Another Sonam in the making! I agree with posters below, Diana or Yami would look and act much better than this immature girl.

look at all the criticism below lol... this her 2nd movie... n ppl r acting like she's running for oscars. give the girl a break.. i think shes doing gr8 for a newcomer.. she has a much sweeter presence than her counterparts diana yami parineeti.

Yeah agree she doesn't look like a Tamil girl ! I don't understand why they don't take someone who's from south india !

Beside you can't learn Bharatanatyam in two months, it takes years of practices !!

Its not in the sheer sense of criticism,but I personally didn't feel Aaliya was 'exceptionally good' in SOTY.She was plain fine.

When you have strong debutantes like Parineeti,Yami,Diana and others making it in the same year(2012).These people got to portray a real hard-core character.Not as in,Aaliya got a bad one,its just that she couldn't explore herself as an actor much in the movie.It was more of babying around.

Though,I'd always wish her luck and expect a strong portrayal in this movie'cause the character does have some nail points.

Can't say if she can play a Tamilian girl convincingly or nt. But I hope she's also learning 2 speak Tamil at d same time.
@ Yam29- agree with she doesn't look like a Tamil girl at all. Nd m nt talking about complexion here.
But I guess if she's talented enough she wud carry it off well.
