Speaking out on the horrific rape of a young woman in Delhi, actress Kareena Kapoor Tuesday said that justice takes too long in our country and it's time to revise our laws.
She was talking in context to the gang rape of a 23-year-old girl in the capital that has shocked the nation.
"When a incident like this happens we give statements as to what all should be done. But one can't ignore the fact that the justice in our country takes too long. We really need to reassess our laws so that justice happens faster," said Kareena Tuesday.
The 32-year-old was here to attend the 58th Idea Filmfare Awards 2012 press conference.
The brutal rape and torture occurred on Sunday night when the woman along with her male friend boarded a private bus at Munirka to go to Dwarka after watching a movie.
The woman was beaten up, stripped and raped by at least seven men who were inside the bus. Both the woman and her male friend, who was also beaten up when he resisted, were thrown off the bus near Mahipalpur.
"This has happened in a city like Delhi, but many such things happen in the interiors and does not get reported," she said.
"Saying that a woman should not go out at night is not the solution to the problem. This is something that I don't stand for. I am a woman and I like to go out at night..." she added.

there should be nothing short of corporal punishment meted out to these rapists..but before that i insist they should be given a public lynching and brutally stripped, neutered, tonsured and fried in hot oil.if that girl was tortured brutally, these animals should meet the same fate.disgusting, slimy creeps.its high time the condition of women improved in our country.by putting on a curfew on them at night,we are denying them their basic privileges.what if a woman's parent is sick/hospitalized and she needs to go see him?what if there's a fire in her house?what if she misses her bus and suddenly the buses go on strike and shes left alone at the bus stop at night?what if shes a professional who HAS to do night shifts?how is the govt going to solve this problem?why arent they improving the security of women in our country?why wait for an incident like this to happen?

FASTER JUSTICE IN INDIA???
NICE JOKE EH?
It used to be the exclusive right and privilege of the 'Thakurs', land owners and politicians to commit rape and torture and brutalize women!
The victims had only 2 choice, commit suicide or keep schtum for the fear of being ostracised by their family and community!
Nowadays even the ordinary men think that it is their God given right to abuse women!
THE POLICE AND POLITICIANS LIKE SHEILA DIXIT/MAMTA BANERJI ETC.. ARE IN DENIAL OR DON'T LIKE TO SEE RAPE STATISTICS ON THEIR WATCH, SO THEY ACTIVELY DISCOURAGE RAPE VICTIMS FROM PURSUING FOR JUSTICE!
Rapists start first with 'eve teasing' and because they get away with that, they go on to becoming rapists...
The law, with the help of Police and Politicians should clamp down hard on 'Eve Teasers' before they become fully fledged RAPISTS!
I agree... Justice is very delayed in India and telling a women that she is not supposed to go out at night is not right... I am a working women and i have all rights to be out at night time... The laws should be made stricter and it should be induce a fear in the minds of those who think that they can abuse, rape and torture a women like this and come out of this unscratched... THis is injustice to women... Where are we today????? We boast being a nation which respects women, which worships her but what some men fail to realise is that just like their own mother and sisters the women they rape is also a mother, a sister of some one else...
The culprits are not from upper middle class or connected to politicians so they will be prosecuted, BUT IF THEY WERE FROM UPPER CLASS OR RELATIVES OF POLITICIANS THEN POLICE WOULD HAVE SWEPT IT UNDER THE CARPET!
INDIA IS RAPIDLY CATCHING UP WITH SOUTH AFRICA AS A NUMERO UNO RAPISTS COUNTRY WITH UP/BIHAR AND DELHI LEADING THE WAY!
IF PEOPLE WANT TO SEE A LIVING BREATHING ZOMBIE THEN GO SEE THIS RAPED AND BRUTALIZED YOUNG LADY...
I agree with u
i am also a girl and i like going out but when such things happens then there is a very serious problem in our society. The law should take a very serious and strict step about this matter. When i heard about the woman...i wanted to kill the bas***ds.
completely agree.. why should women stay inside the house when God has made them equal to any other species. This is all drven by construed brains. As she said women get raped not only in big cties and outside the houses but inside their own houses by relatives, friends and can not open up mouth... So, it is a CRIME that should be punshed with dealth penalty
i agreee with you bebo...
its really a disgrace how some poeple think that girls should stay home and no go out to stop rape from happeing...thats just plain out stupid. if you really want to do something then improve the justice system and teach those stuupid ars***les to learn how to respect a woman and not do such low and cheap things
Kareena Kapoor will be featuring in an item number 'Mary' in Brothers.
