Former cop-turned-lawyer and activist Y.P. Singh Friday lashed out at Mumbai Police for allegedly "helping" actor Salman Khan in the 2002 hit and run case.

Khan had rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four others sleeping on a pavement, September 28, 2002.

Singh pointed out that the trial in the case has been going on for over 10 years; there is little progress. He added it is evident that the police department was responsible for delaying things.

"In the beginning, the trial court had ordered summons to 34 witnesses, but the police did not serve summons to 24 people. Police had informed the court that some could not be traced while others did not accept the summons. Only one witness appeared before the court. Police had deliberately not taken the job of issuing summons seriously," Singh told reporters here.

Singh said that it took two years for the police to present the doctor who treated the injured in that incident before the court.

"Also, Salman was absent 82 times when summoned by the court," he said.

"Later, even the public prosecutor started ignoring the case," the activist said.

Singh said that he would demand that a high level inquiry into the matter. "The commissioner of police needs to set up a high level inquiry into the matter, to show how simple summons were not be served from time to time for years together and witnesses not produced in court," he said.

I'm his fan, but can Never say it is Ok or it was a mistake whatever he did! But over the years my hatred has mellowed down thinking : Is God Blind? Certainly not ! He forgives biggest sins if the person is ready to repent for it with a true heart ! If salman hadn't been repentant of what he did , I dont think God/ Allah would have made him even bigger in fame ad success today where he stands :) yes we haven't seen the future , but the present is surely showing that he does feel the consequences of what he did , hence he gave birth to 'Being Human' !!! The question here is where is our judicial system going? :( no one is Denying not even salman that oh tht wasn't me it was my driver or other blah !!! It's clear what is the case yet our system is getting corrupt under the power of others ! On the other hand, also did that chinkara case need 10 years ???? No! You could have solved maybe two murder cases by then ! Also all know the other actor who was involved but got saved by his family influences !
The problem is : nothing can happen to salman or Sanjay dutt until the system decides to be fair and square ! Lets just not blame salman on one side that he is a killer et al. The system too should have the power to punish all equally !

watched HEROINE move recently and the movie exactly shows what Salman is doing.. Hiring good PR people to maintain the rapport externally. He is yet another celebrity who manages to go clean even after doing all this.. I feel sad for all Indians

Salman is an example of being a good human being. So many people including police officers , lawyers, public prosecuters and judges have earned millions because of him.

If Salman had not been a criminal then all these people may not have become so rich. Salman is most generous!!

@DejaVu. no i am not saying that my father himself is a lawyer who fights for justice i meant if they felt he needed to be punished they could have done that 10 yrs ago but why now and everyone makes mistakes if god can forgive the biggest sins known then who are we to say he deserves to be punished or not

u r talking about indian court very recently a poor boy who came from village to mumbai to earn money for his family n was selling some vegatables n helping his family
one day near his shop some boy stole the purse of a man n police took him he has rs 200 in his pocket for selling vegetables n the man whose opurse was taken he also has 200 rs in his pocket n police took that poor guy
n police court all r ready to prove that he stole the purse when he was saying no i don't n the case keep on going for one month n no court was pitying on that boy nor our police n he was denying about the theft as he didn\t
finally the other prisoners feel sorry for him n brought some human rights n starts his court case n for 6 months case was on in that becoz he couldn't send money for his father his father died
n ths incident broke him n finally he accepted he stole that purse he took 200 rs so plz now let me go my family needs me n then as he was already in jail for 6 months he was set free

this is truth of our indian court n police
the police will be slow n so many cases r in courts which take many many years si i don't think it is big deal

I am sure Salman must be regretting with what happened, may be him doing charity is a way to repentance. But here is my problem, a common person would have been in jail long back, but celebrities are treated differently not in India only but all over the world.

We cannot say it does not matter what he does in his personal life, yes it does matter...he killed someone because of his carelessness and for being irresponsible. He is a celebrity and people do look up to celebrities. He should take this opportunity to spread awareness that drinking and driving is something that should be avoided especially in India where this rule is taken very lightly.

Imagine losing your loved one due to a drunk driver. I am sure it must be tough for Salman, I wish he can find peace with this and does the right thing. Being a die hard fan of some actor is good, but if someone you look up to kills someone then it is wrong to say that what he does in his personal life is not important. Yes it is important because even though we put actors on a pedestal they are humans after all and all humans are responsible for others life.
