Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan feels it is futile for Indian media to compare Indian film award functions to a ceremony like Oscars because here most such functions are organised by the media houses themselves.
"Interesting to see-read a lot of the media comparing the Oscars to our Indian awards. Most seem to think that we need to improve, raise our standards... Wait a minute... Aren't most of OUR awards run and held by media houses," Abhishek wrote on Twitter.
"Take the initiative, we shall follow," he added, taking a dig at mediapersons, who hailed Sunday night's 84th Academy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles.
Some lauded the ceremony for its transparent system of winner selection, while some celebrities like Mini Mathur are impressed with the right titles to the awards.
"It's just so correct that an original screenplay n adapted screenplay gets judged in separate categories," tweeted Mini.

I think we glorify Oscars way too much. They have their own biases and agendas, ignoring many movies (like Filmfare awards) and many deserving recipients for their own favourites. There is a lot of campaigning that happens for the Oscars before hand, with people basically marketing or making movies to get the award.
Also it depends on your own judgment of what a good movie is. Just because a movie is all dark and mysterious doesn't make it good, more importantly it needs to entertain.
But more importantly, Hindi movies are vastly different from hollywood ones so comparing the awards is also not valid because there is such a different approach.
Indian awards are highly biased. its more about commercial success and glamor more than critical acclaim. i have hardly seen the filmfare or any awards for tat matter supporting small budget GOOD films, films which at least ATTEMPT to go the unusual way. i guess even filmfare knows it, tats why they have this 'critics award'...which is also now a day used as a tool to satisfy everybody. and my mother says tat filmfare was never 'fare' (fair) in her era as well.
Oscars on the other hand ARE class personified and dignified, where every nomination is deserving. and its not always about commercial success. One more thing pathetic about indian awards, is the standard of hosting and presentation going down, degrading, becoming even more pathetic and crass every year, to this extent u cannot watch it with your family. i have NO problems with song and dance. i love the performances. but the hosting should have some basic sense and etiquette so tat ppl don't go W*F on it.
As much as I am not a fan of Abhi, I have to agree. Most Indian Award shows are highly political and the most deserving candidate usually doesn't get an award. The Oscars truly honours and brings to light actors and films who otherwise go un-noticed but bring something brilliant to the screen. Movies like Hugo, Pan's Labyrinth, The Hours, The Pianist were brilliant films! Recognition of actors like Adrien Brody and the work was really given to these films by the Oscars. In Indian Award ceremonies there is a lot of awarding blockbusters over small films. Recently yes, with the acknowledgement of films like Iqbal and Udaan we have seen a change. But honestly, there are many more like these that need the recognition, because they were just simply amazing films without big names and glitz and glam (unfortunately the movie industry really relies on glitz and glam.) Just my POV don't take offence.
Yes, he is so right, you should not compare. I am American, and I have watched many Indian awards shows. I must say though that unlike the Oscars, I actually stay A WAKE for the Indian awards!!! I was asleep as soon as Billy Crystal finished his...whatever that was he did. Don't compare Abhi, just be happy your shows are 100x better.
well, today won a pakistani filmaker an oscar award , so not only indian film industry is alive
@kanchan.p: i agree with you in most parts.
i haven't seen rockstar so I can't give my opinions about it. To be honest, I did not find any film deserving of an award. I think films like Jodha Akhbar, Fashion, and 3 Idiots deserve awards because the story lines were well written, and everything in it felt real unlike most of the movies we're seeing now.
I am NOT saying that I didn't like any of the movies that came out, I actually saw probably most of the popular ones. I found most of these movies ENTERTAINING and not award-worthy.
I just feel like some of these films do not deserve an award.
Hopefully, this year is better :)
