Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 12 (IANS) Veteran Malayalam actor Nedumudi Venu Saturday warned the Kerala film industry that it was in dire need of marketing professionals.

Speaking to reporters after screening his new film 'Novel' here Saturday, Venu said that times have changed from when Malayalam movies competed each other. 'Today, with other language films, including foreign movies, becoming more popular, the Malayalam film industry needs good marketing professionals to meet the fresh challenges,' he said.

Over the years, the number of profit-making Malayalam films has come down dramatically due to reasons beyond the control of the producers. Venu said: 'It cannot be said that the root cause of the crisis is the high remuneration of the superstars. Producers are ready to pay them high amount.'

The film's director and producer East Coast Vijayan, actress Sada and several other stars were also present at the press conference. Vijayan, a Dubai-based Kerala businessman, has conducted many stage shows of Malayalam film stars since the early '90s in the Middle East. He is entering the film industry for the first time through this musical love story.

'I have been working on this story for the past three years. I am certainly delighted that this has come out well. Whatever the outcome, I am determined to stay in the film world,' said Vijayan.

The 'Novel' has some novelties, especially in the music department, with three music directors - M. Jayachandran, Balabhaskar and ghazal singer Umbayee - teaming up for the six songs in the film. Apart from this, it marks the entry of popular South Indian actress Sada into the Malayalam film industry.

'I instantly agreed to work in the film after hearing the story line from the director. Now I am really happy that the film has come out extremely well,' said Sada.

Sada refused to comment when asked if Malayalam superstars are ageing.
