New Delhi, Nov 9 Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor is set to foray into television with the Indian remake of hit US TV series '24'.

The actor is said to have inked Rs.100-crore deal with 20th Century Fox to remake the TV series, originally starring Keifer Sutherland as the protagonist. Anil will not only produce it, he will also take up the lead role as Jack Bauer.

'It will be a great honour for me to play Jack Bauer. Kiefer has created an iconic character which has inspired me to bring the franchise to India. This will be my first foray to Indian television and I look forward to duplicating the standard of excellence

Fox has so successfully created,' Anil said in a statement.

Anil had made an appearance in the US TV series, where he played the middle-eastern leader Omar Hassan, who comes to the US on a peace keeping mission.

'Anil's passion for the series goes back to his time as a guest star on the show, and we're excited to enable him to realize his vision of creating a new version of the series for his native India. We think this could pave the way for many more iterations of this brilliant series in other international territories down the road,' said Marion

Edwards, president, Fox International.

@fijiana

The concept was made to fit India!!!!!But it was similar alright!!!!!Even to his wife dying at the end which I thought was unecessary as here there won't be a second season like in 24!!!!!

Too early to judge, Anil Kapoor has already proved himself to be an amazing actor so you never know he might just live up to expectations. But then again...just have to wait and find out.

@fijiana: The name of the serial was Time Bomb and it used to come on Zee TV. It was made by Ketan Mehta.

All the best to Anil Kapoor.

It was an intelligent and entertaining drama -- and as much as I love Indian Entertainment, we're just not ready to walk away from our Saas-Bahu types of drama...

I would definitely re-think this one, Anil

if i am not wrong then a concept similar to that of 24 was tried on indian television, and it went well. it was sort of like a miniseries. it has rajeeev khandelwal as a RAW agent, trying to catch the terrorist played by akashdeep sehgal.. not actually similar to the storylines of 24, but it had that clock turning thingy...i can't seem to rmember the name though.

I believe this will destroy 24 altogether, where there is pure action suspense will replace lovey dovey n crappy camera angles not looking forward to this at all :)
