Kolkata, Dec 15 (IANS) Bengali actress and former Trinamul Congress legislator Nayana Bandopadhyay Saturday said she had received abusive and life-threatening SMSes while she was touring rural areas for performing in open-air plays.
'I received two messages written in abusive language while I was in Purulia district. One contained a threat to my life. I was shocked and immediately informed police,' Bandopadhyay, wife of former Congress politician Sudip Bandopadhyay, told IANS over phone on her way to a performance in Murshidabad district, about 350 km from here.
'I don't understand who is threatening me through SMS,' the noted stage and film actress said as she left Purilia district for her show in Murshidabad.
She said police had made adequate arrangements for her stay in Purulia Friday night.
The district police also provided escort as she left the district Saturday after finishing her show.
'We have come to know this evening that she is on her way and would be arriving in Murshidabad by Saturday night. We have been informed by our headquarters to increase the security cover for the actress,' Murshidabad Superintendent of Police Rahul Srivastava told IANS.
He said all arrangements have been made at the hotel premises where the actress would stay in the night.
She returns to Kolkata Monday.
