Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra Saturday apologised to the media for asking a reporter to shut up when he was asked him if his film '3 Idiots' was lifted from Chetan Bhagat's book 'Five Point Someone'.
'I really think I'm silly (but) I was provoked (to react that way). But I shouldn't have done this. I saw myself on TV (later) and saw how I was shouting 'shut up! shut up!' like an animal. I told myself - 'what nonsensical behaviour',' Chopra told reporters here.
The producer lost his cool when he was asked whether 70 percent of the film, which has grossed over Rs.100 crore in the first four days, was taken from the book -- as claimed by Bhagat. Chopra got angry and demanded to know if the journalist had seen the movie and read the book.
The scribe said he had seen '3 Idiots' but had not read 'Five Point Someone'. This further angered Chopra, who got up and started shouting: 'Then you shut up. When you have not read the book, then how can you say that the movie is 70 percent of the book?'
Chopra's reaction evoked anger among the reporters with many demanding that the filmmaker apologise. But he didn't -- until Saturday.
Now Chopra says that he doesn't want to meet Bhagat 'for the rest of my life because it's all being done with very bad intention'.
He went on: 'Do you know the man (Bhagat), apart from signing the contract, took his money. I (even) paid him (the) bonus before the movie (was) released. That man is not saying it now. Actually the bonus I was supposed to pay him after the film was released has been paid to him.
'He took the money and now the money is in the bank. Look how it was all manipulated. He started it all when I left Mumbai,' said Chopra.
But Bhagat is adamant that he has not been given due credit for the storyline and that most of the sequences in the film have been lifted from his bestseller.

hahahhaa
gosh whats new.. now it is n open secret that nothing in bollywood is real.. its just either copy from some old english movie or translated directly, or remake of some old hindi movie which was earlier copied from some english movie hahahahahha... gosh this is called comedy circus :P
i actually haven't read the book. but if im not too wrong, i remember that during the first promotional looks, 3i was announced as the 'adaptation of chetan bhagat's novel'. so now what? nothing in bollywood is original. nothing.
why dont the makers not understand that chetan bhagat is asking only for credit!!!!! not money!!!!!!!! though the movie is totally not the same but the basic character sketch is the same.......... they have altered it only for thier own good.....coz a movie needs to have loads of masala n also needs to appeal the masses too.....and initially while the movie was announced they proudly said tht it was made on the novel... and evoked the ineterst int he viewers..............
the makers have to realise that the main soul of the movie is based on the book even if the script was made differently !!! such a big insult to the writer ... they are trying to take away the credits as it's a hit now !!! loved the movie, acting, direction and script too but not to give credit to the author who gave them inspiration is real insult !!! if it was flop , they might have blamed the book as they did according to book !!!!!!!
i support d makers of 3 idiots as d movie is NOT 70% based on d novel...they made some really significant changes like d climax ws totally different, even d characters were nt xactly similar...they just lifted some incidents 4rm d book n paid him 4 dat..if he had issues, he shud ve nt signed d contract in d first place which clearly stated d no prominance thing..he had good things 2 say about d movie post premiere so y s he bringin up d issue now when d movie is a massive hit!..
good that he did apologise to media... it was very immature of him to insult media. the movie is hit and so they don't want to recognise the original writer of the book.. he wants is the credits and which chetan deserves. 10 lakhs ??? it is too less for the whole concept of the movie and copying almost everything from book !!!
The film is 80% taken from the book!!!!Bhagat shuld be given credit!!!!!
And whats 10 lakhs in front of the crores reaped??And Bhagat is just asking for a credit!!!!
Screenplay writer and writer is different and anyone seen the Harry Potter series knows both is given credit!!!!
VVC may be silly as hell, but Chetan Bhagat needs to be happy with what he got. He signed a contract, he received the credit that was agreed upon in the contract, he received the payment promised, he received a 10 lakh bonus.....that should be the end of it. It can't be dignified at this point, but at least keep some ounce of respect!

I think it serves VV Chopra, RK Hirani and Amir Khan right as they have so much ego problem. Yes they bring good movies but not at the cost of someone's self respect and credit for their hard work.
I will always say," Without Chetan's Bhagat's Novel, this movie was not going to be sdame."
I hope, in future, all the story writers are more clear and upfront with these rich actors so that they cannot just oignore them when they put crores of RS in their pockets.
