Actor Aamir Khan Friday said author Chetan Bhagat was 'hungry for publicity' and denied claims that the film '3 Idiots' was 70 percent based on Bhagat's bestseller 'Five Point Someone'.

'Three months earlier he (Bhagat) was saying something else and now he is saying something else as the movie is a huge hit now,' Aamir told reporters at a press conference at Big Cinemas here.

'While we were shooting at IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Bangalore, Chetan had come to meet us. So when I told him that I haven't read your book, he replied that there was no need to do so as I have read the script and it is different from the book... So no need to read it,' the actor said.

'Now he is telling everyone that our movie is 70 percent on the book. It all shows that we are being used, you (media) are being used. This clearly shows that he is hungry for publicity,' Aamir said.

He added that Bhagat was trying to take away credit from Abhijat Joshi, the writer of the film that has grossed over Rs.100 crore in its first four days.

'Did you know about the writer before the movie was released?' he asked.

'Abhijat and Raju (director Rajkumar Hirani) have worked on this script for three years. Chetan is a big writer but Abhijat was the other guy who was working on the script. Full credit is given to him and he is not their (producers or directors) brother. But he deserved it,' Aamir said.

'All Chetan is trying to do right now is taking away credit from these people who deserve it. Let's not encourage someone who is hungry for publicity,' he added.

Directed by Hirani, '3 Idiots' stars Aamir, R.Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor.

Reliance BIG Entertainment, distributor of the film, released about 2,000 prints across 40 countries.

I never seen Amit Khan fair in this situtation as he is talking so rude about Chetan Bhagat that he is hungary for publicity.
AK himself is a big actor but he goes around City to City for publicity????
After all, Raj Kumar Hirani got the idea from Chetan's novel and he cannot claim that this is his original idea.
Mr. Khan, give the credit whebever it is due for other artists too. I think one artist should respect the other artist but they are just putting this poor guy down. He is not going to make Crores as AK or Hirani are, but give him, whatever he deserves.
Speaking about 3 Idiots writed, " Abhijit", any writed can smartly copy the subject matte rand change the dialogues to make his own.
It is ridiculous how rich people rule everywhere.

Going by AK, VVC and RH comments one could also say that Harry Potter film series are original and not bsed on novel..... even HP films are not 100% by book... But till they give a huge credit to J K Rowling, bcoz she is the person for the film to hapen..... likewise Bhagat is the person for 3 Idiots to happen... Give him credit for that.....

Regardless of what Amir or Hirani say now but the fact is that Hirani and Abhijit got the enire idea from Chetan's novela nd they changed it to make it their own and now they are criticising Chetan who worked hard on his novel.
This is not first time it happened in Bollywood. Bollywood is known for copying stories and not giving credit to the original creative artist.

i dont think Bhagat is wrong at all...
AK twisted the story to suit him..and all taht drama of Hirani losing temper was so much like as if they wanted publicity!!!
Five Point Someone is what they used as a base...so damn people...just accpet it!!!....haha!

To me it seems more like a manufactured controversy as Bhagat has been ecstatic in his tweets so far about the movie. I have read the book and watched the movie. 70% is NOT FPS. I would say FPS is only around 50% of the movie, but Abhijat Joshi and his team have taken the movie to another level altogether. Also, while Bhagat has a huge fan following, anyone who has an idea about "literature" will ever call his books path-breaking or great works. They are easy reads that raise some issues half-heartedly, and that's why they are so popular with teenagers who can show "at least I'm reading!"

Aamir and his cheap publicity tactics. He had done the same thing during Taare Zameen Par release and took the credit from its original director Anmol Gupte Angry

yes , chetan bhagat has to get credit as he is the soul of the movie as he wrote the book from which the movie makers were inspired. in his interview it never was said that it is not inspired by the book.. he has kept saying that the main soul of the movie is based on the book... how many percentage will depends on what people feel about it. not to give credits to this good writer is real insult. aamir is just an actor and who is he to talk about all this !! very arrogant statement by him.. i really loved the movie, acting, direction and script but that does not take away the main person behind it...

I'm supporting Chetan for many reasons, all of which I don't think I need to reveal here.
One of them is the fact that people support Aamir because he is a popular film actor and Chetan is "just" a writer. Chetan "wrote" the book himself and Aamir acted in a script "given" to him. See the big difference there. The guy who actually did the major work, writing the book, making India READ LIKE NEVER BEFORE is being insulted by an actor.
Chetan is one of the reasons Indian citizens are reading so much, people watch films no matter what, Aamir or no Aamir. Chetan is the best author in India (I hope to be the best soon), and I don't think Aamir is the best actor in India.

It is wrong of all the 3I members to insult such a talented author. Case Closed.
