"Love is like the way you breathe air." - Kareena Kapoor

She gets in the skin of a journalist for her upcoming film Satyagraha and talks like one. India Forums in an exclusive chat with the very beautiful actor.

The very talented Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set to play a journalist in her upcoming film Satyagraha. The very talented actor looked drop dead gorgeous and spoke like a diva when the team of India Forums interacted with her at Mehboob Studio, Mumbai. Tete-a tete with Kareena Kapoor Khan.

You are a married woman now, did you feel a change in approach, responsibilities and life while at work this time?

No I don't think so. I think Saif and I do not think like that. We were in love and we decided to get married. I think people and media talk much more about it. There is nothing different in real life. I am working and even Saif is working in America right now. There has never been any restriction. I don't understand why people are a little zapped when someone asks, what is the difference in life after marriage? and Saif is like, Why do they ask that? ( Smiles) There is no difference. He is Saif and I am Kareena and we are working like we used to. I have always been open about love. Falling in love is not a crime. People are always trying to associate love with your career. I don't understand it when people talk like this. Love is like the way you breathe air. You love your mother, but you still work. I love my mother, I love my family but I still work.

Have the responsibilities taken a toll on you?

I have been very responsible from my childhood. Earlier I had responsibilities towards my family, Karisma and now Saif's also. Saif is a mature person, he is a 43 year old man who is responsible for himself also. ( Smiles). I know what my responsibilities are but even today I am a free person only.

Has Saif changed after marriage and how are things with your in-laws?

Its great. It was even when I was dating Saif. Its amazing that he's the same and hopefully he'll never change.

Talking about family, you haven't worked with any of the Kapoors till now. Will we see all of you on screen?

I want to and I hope that we work together soon. We are the most talented people so we should work together (Smiles). But no such opportunity has come till now that we work together.

In Satyagraha, you seem to be the catalyst that brings about a change.

She's the conscience of Satyagraha. She's the truth in the film. A journalist's responsibility is to report the truth and she sums up every incident that takes place. She is the voice of the film and that is why I wanted to play this part because it is the most important role in the film. When you see the film, I feel you'll even see an answer to the problem, a solution. There is drama, there is entertainment but then there is a bonus also if there is inspiration in the film. The feeling everyone got after a film like Rang De Basanti, you will feel that way after watching Satyagraha as well. But at the end of the day we are actors, our job is to entertain people. We are not politicians. It is a film and it's meant to entertain.

So you agree, that journalists do represent the truth?

I definitely understand the responsibilities that come with journalism and one of them is true reporting. Even though I am not an entertainment journalist in the film but I understand that you guys are also doing your work. I support it, but cant say about others.

If you're a journalist for a day, like you are in the film. who would you want to interview?

There are so many actors, but I would not want to interview any Bollywood actor because I think there is nothing interesting left to know about them. I would definitely want to interview Hollywood actors and one of them would be Brad Pitt.

Talking about Cinema today, the language barrier that we had earlier in the days is somewhere getting blurred, which is a good sign. Would you be interested in essaying a role in regional cinema?

I personally have a little problem with the language because I don't know Tamil or Telugu and till I don't understand what I am saying I don't think I can do it. Throughout my career, I have had lots of offers but if I don't understand what they are saying , then how can I do that?

What prompted you to take up Satyagraha in spite of it not being an out-n-out commercial Bollywood film?

I like to do such films. I did Chameli when I was 22. People said, why is she doing a film like that. I like doing different kind of films. I did Satyagraha because the milieu, the setting that Prakash Ji gave is not regular for a Bollywood masala film and its nice.

How was the experience of working with the ensemble cast of Satyagraha?

I have done 2 very beautiful films with Amit uncle (Amitabh Bachchan) before, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Dev and now Satyagraha that will come. It is a great film. It is a very relevant film about what is happening in the country today and that is what I aspire to do. The ensemble cast, be it Amit uncle, Ajay (Devgn), Arjun (Rampal) was fun. We have been good friends also. The atmosphere was great and it was fun shooting this film.

Prakash Jha is said to be one of the most lovable people in Bhopal. How was your experience of being a witness to the whole scenario while on shoot?

We got the opportunity to shoot everywhere as Prakash ji had taken over the whole city. The people of Bhopal love him. I was shocked that a director has taken over the whole city and it seemed like the entire city was working for Satyagraha. There were 2000 local people on the set everyday, working in the film. It is so amazing to see how everyone respects Prakash ji so much so automatically it would inspire you to go in the morning and want to shoot on the set.

If you had to do 'Satyagraha' for the common man, what would it be for?

I think women's safety, that's what the country needs right now.

What according to you are the areas to be treated in a country like India?

I think the list is very long in a country like India. Starting with, women's safety. Being a woman I would like that to happen. My sister has a daughter, I would want her to be safe when she grows up. I am hoping when she grows up, at least by the time she is 16 there is some sort of change. I think the responsibility that media has is a lot which you all have to maintain. Whenever something unfortunate happens in this country, you all are the voice that spreads the word out. You all can scare the people and can give them the information. The media today is the voice of the country.

Being an actor, a public figure, do you feel safe in India?

Its difficult. Feeling secure in India, I don't know. I mean we need to change our laws and that's for sure. We need to re- assess and right now the anger is at its peak. I am hoping that soon we will be able to re-assess the laws of this nation. Talking about the unfortunate incident in Mumbai recently, we used to hear about it in small towns, then it happened in Delhi and now in Mumbai. In a way forget Delhi, Mumbai there are so many small towns in our country where we don't even know if a newspaper reaches there. It is happening in the entire country. The entire India is not safe. Mumbai has also become unsafe now but then what about those small towns and people living there? What about them? I think the reason behind all of this is lack of education.
